Entertainment Funds
Divided at Hardman
By OPAL HASTINGS
The carnival and dance held at
the high school was a success be
cause everyone was pleased with
the performance, and the proceeds
were large for here. The money will
be divided equally among the Cove
club, grade school and the Demo
cratic committee.
Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Batty were
attending to business in Heppner
Sunday.
Mr. and Mrs. Glenn ' Farrens
moved to their home in the moun
tains. They have been living 'down
on Rhea creek during the winter.
Mr. and Mrs. William Lee moved
to the Harry French ranch where
Mr. Lee will work. -
Mrs. Everett Harshman was vis
iting friends and relatives here Sun
day. Those attending the plays and
dance from Lonerock were Mr. and
Mrs. Carl McDaniel, Mr. and Mrs.
Oren McDaniel and son, Mr. and
Mrs. Jack Andrews and son Elmer
Joe and daughter Violet.
Mrs. Owen Leathers led Christian
Endeavor Sunday night. The topic
for discussion was "Easter." There
was a special number by Norvan
and Perry Adams, a song, "Jesus
Loves Me." Next Sunday night the
losers in the contest just finished
will entertain the winners with a
campfire supper. The regular Sun
day meeting will be held around the
campfire with Mrs. G. I. Clary as
leader.
Mr. and Mrs. J. N. Batty and fam
ily visited the Lewis Batty home
Sunday
Mr. and Mrs. Victor Lovgren and
children, Larry and Donna Darlene,
spent the week end visiting friends
and relatives here.
We'll have very light showers for
seven Sundays, judging from the
Easter weather. Sunday night there
was a real rain that continued until
Monday morning.
Len Chapin went to work for
Darrel Farrens Sunday.
Those visiting the Sabin Hastings
home Sunday were Mr. and Mrs.
Herman Clemmer and Richard
Clemmer.
The birthday club met April 15 at
the J. W. Stevens home in honor of
the birthday of Loes Stevens. Re
freshments of sandwiches, salad and
coffee were sereved. About 20 were
present.
Esten Stevens has returned from
Lonerock where he has been work
ing for Lester Wick.
Mrs. Frank McDaniel, Miss Loes
Stevens and Esten Stevens drove
to Hamilton Easter Sunday where
they visited their parents, Mr. and
Mrs. J. W. Stevens.
Mr. and Mrs. Charles Fraters were
visiting the Fred Gallagher home
Sunday.
At Community Sing last Wednes
day there were three special num
bers, a reading, "Similar Case," by
Mrs. Richard Robison, an Easter
poem by Alene Inskeep, and two
songs by Donald Robison on the ac,
cordian accompanied by James Stev
ens on the piano.
Charlie McDaniel has been suf
fering from an injured hip due to a
fall. He received treatment from
the doctor both Saturday and Mon
day and although he was injured
several weeks ago he is improving
very slowly.
Mrs. Neal Knighten and Miss Iris
Morton were visitors in Heppner
Saturday.
Mr. and Mrs. Bert Bleakman and
Miss Neva Bleakman, Mr. and Mrs,
Kenneth Bleakman and Nita were
visiting Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Mc
Daniel Sunday. They all went for a
picnic at the Chapin place while
here.
Oscel, Nona and A. D. Inskeep at
tended the show in Heppner Sua
day.
In the Christian Endeavor contest
for attendance which included the
last seven Sundays, the winning
side had 103 points and the losers 54,
Mrs. Neal Knighten drove to Pine
City Sunday where she visited her
mother, Mrs. Roy Neill, who is ill
with pneumonia.
Mr. and Mrs. Raymond McDon
aid and son Monte, Mr. and Mrs,
Duffwin McKitrick and son Roger
moved to the Percy Hughes ranch
on Butter creek where the men are
employed.

Whereas, it has pleased the Grand
Architect of the Universe to call
from his earthly labors our beloved
brother, Wm. R. Irwin, and whereas
the vacancy thus caused in the ranks
of the Craft can never again be
filled;
Therefore, be it Resolved, that
Heppner Lodge No. 69, A. F. & A. M.,
in memory of the fraternal love and
respect held for our departed broth
er and in testimony of our sorrow
at his departure, drape our charter
and spread upon our minutes a rec
ord of our loss.
Be it Further Resolved, that a copy
of these resolutions be presented to
the family in testimony of our sin
cere sympathy in their loss, and
that a copy be given the Heppner
Gazette Times for publication.

Boardman Students
Dig Out Coyotes

The high school biology class mo
tored out in the sands with Adam
Knoblock, veteran government trap
per, on Wednesday to dig out a den
of coyotes. The girls dug until they
had uncovered ten baby coyotes.
This furnishes one for each member
of the class. The girls then had their
pictures taken with the coyotes.
Miss Josephine McEntire of Pen
dleton visited her parents, Mr. and
Mrs. John McEntire, over the week
end.
Easter visitors at the A. R. Hug
home were Mrs. Blaine, Sandy San
derson and Phyllis Sanderson of
Portland and Mr. and Mrs. Frank
Velpman of Pendleton.
Mr. and Mrs. Wolf of Blalock spent
Saturday visiting at the J. F. Gor-
ham home.
Miss Ruth King of Portland vis
ited at the Chas. Dillon home over
the week end.
Mrs. Cox and children and Lloyd
Powell of Seattle left Sunday for
home after spending the past week
visiting relatives on the project.
Earl Cramer, Basil Cramer and
Stanley Partlow left Saturday for
the Doherty ranch where they will
shear sheep.
A smoker was given Friday eve
ning by the FFA boys, the Board-
man boys against the Heppner FFA
boys. There were seven bouts in the
course of the' evening, Boardman
winning four fights. Heppner won
two and one was a draw. Stanley
Partlow won his fight by a knock'
out in the first round.
The H. E. club sponsored their ba
zaar Saturday evening. A program
was enjoyed by the crowd in the
evening. Dr. Bostrum of Portland
spoke to them on typhoid fever.
Miss Elanore Tildon and Patty Til-
don spent the week-end visiting in
Portland.
Mrs. Blanche Jones and family
spent Sunday visiting Mr. and Mrs,
Phil Jones in Hermiston.
Mr. and Mrs. John McClaskey of
Arlington spent Sunday visiting Mrs.
McClaskey's parents, Mr. and Mrs,
Robert Wilson.
An Easter cantata was given at
the community church Sunday eve
ning. It was conducted by Mrs.
Maude Kobow. An Easter program
was given in the morning after the
Sunday school hour by the children.
Mr. and Mrs. Ed Barlow and Mrs,
Leo Root motored to Wapati to
spend Easter.
Marietta Thomas and Echo Coats
attended the typing contest held in
Heppner Saturday afternoon. J,

Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Burger of
Umatilla spent Sunday visiting
friends on the project.
Mr. and Mrs. Robert Burger are
living here now. Mr. Burger is re
lieving M. Merritt for a few days.
Mrs. Burger is returning to The
Dalles Monday.
Mr. and Mrs. E. T. Messenger's
daughter and husband of The Dalles
spent the week end visiting them.
Mrs. Gladys Griffin of Portland is
visiting her brother and family, Mr.
and Mrs. Russell Millere, this week.
Mrs. Bickford of La Grande spent
the past week visiting her daughter,
Mrs. A. R. Hug.
John Partlow left Monday morn
ing for Echo where he intends to
shear sheep.
