Miss Dora E. Moore spent Sun
day at the C. H. Bartholomew home.
Mr. and Mrs. A. E. Wattenburger
and Mr. and Mrs. E. B. Wattenbur
ger and family spent Sunday in Pas
co visiting Mr and Mrs. Earl Wat
tenburger. Mr. and Mrs. John Healy were in
Heppner Monday.
Jack Hickson and Mr. and Mrs.
Lowell Hickson of Pleasant Valley
spent a few days visiting the H. E.
Young home.
Mr. and Mrs. Barton Clark spent
Friday evening in Heppner.
Mrs. Lucy O'Brien and daughter
Isabella spent Friday in Pendleton.
Commissioner Roy Neill spent
Saturday in Heppner on business.
Mr. and Mrs. James Daly and Mr.
and Mrs. John Healy were Pendle
ton visitors Saturday.
Fred Rauch and daughters, Lilly,
Mabel and Elsie, visited at the Henry
Rauch home near Lexington Sun
day.
Mr. and Mrs. Pete Slevin of Board

Walter Connell
Dies From Typhoid

Walter Connell, 23, son of Mr. and
Mrs. W. B. Connell, passed away at
the Pendleton hospital Thursday,
Jan. 13, after several weeks illness
with typhoid fever. Funeral services
were held at the Presbyterian church
Sunday afternoon.
Mr. and Mrs. A. C. Houghton and
Mrs. Stella Poulson were business
visitors in Heppner last Wednesday.
Mrs. Bessie Strader returned home
from Portland the last of the week.
Mr. and Mrs. Don Isom were din
ner guests of Mr. and Mrs. Wrex
Moses Sunday.
Mr. Chambers is employed by Mrs.
James Warner leveling the lots
around the postoffice. Mrs. Warner
expects to have fruit and shade trees
set and a new lawn planted in the
near future.
Rev. and Mrs. Alcorn motored to
Toledo, Wash., last Monday to see
an uncle of Mrs. Alcorn's who is ser
iously ill. Miss Neva Blair is filling
the public while they are gone
Mr. and Mrs. Batie Rand visited
the W. C. Isom family Thursday
evening.
The Echo physician was at the Ir
rigon school Monday and Tuesday,
giving inoculations for the preven
tion of typhoid fever.
Marshal Markham from Portland
spent the week end with his family.
Mrs. Stevens was the honor guest
at a shower at the home of Mrs.
Brandon last Friday afternoon and
received many lovely presents from
friends who attended.
Mrs. Tom Caldwell is having some
improvements made on her lawn and
a new fence placed along the front.
The Irrigon boys' basketball team
played Heppner boys Saturday night,
losing the game by one point.
Oregon law requires motorists to
report all automobile accidents re
suiting in property damage or in
death or injury to any person, and
Secretary of State Earl Snell urges
persons making reports to fill in all
the information requested on the
blanks. Only thus, he says, can the
reports serve their greatest useful
ness in pointing the way to accident
prevention.

Three thousand dollars was the net
income from a "Traffic Safety Re
view" recently staged by the Dallas,
Texas, Traffic Safety commission.
The United States Navy band was a
big feature of the review. The com
mission will use the proceeds to fi
nance its campaign of safety educa
tion in the city.
