Lexington Ladies
Enjoy Program

Lexington Home Economics club
met at the home of Mrs. A. H. Nel
son Thursday, Dec. 9, with Mrs.
Henry Smouse and Mrs. Miles Mar
tin as hostesses. An interesting pro
gram was given consisting of Christ
mas carols, a reading of the poem,
"Columbia," written by our Pomona
president, Mrs. McFarland, and a
description of "Stonehenge on the
Columbia" by Cama Campbell.
Travelogue by Margaret Leach of
their recent trip east by the south
ern route and return through the
Bad Lands and Yellowstone park,
a description of the Oregon State
hospital at Pendleton and especially
of the care of the patients by Mrs.
Pearl Marquardt and a travelogue
by Trana Parker of her visit to nor
thern Mexico. Members present
were Mrs. Laura Rice, Emma White,
Pearl Devine, Norma Marquardt,
Pearl Marquardt. Trina Parker, Alta
Cutsforth, Carna Campbell, Bertha
Dinges, Laura Scott, Maude Pointer,
Anna Smouse, Hortense Martin and
Bertha Nelson. Visitors were Mar
garet Leach, Cora Saling, Edna
Rauch and Ruth Lasich. Delicious
. refreshments of toasted sandwiches,
cookies and coffee were served af
ter the program. The rooms were
decorated with holly from the gar
den of Rev. and Mrs. J. L. Jones of
Gladstone. The club has taken out
membership in the Book - of the
Month club.
Lexington and Lena granges held
joint installation at Lexington hall
Saturday evening. Past Master Frank
Parker of Rhea Creek grange pre
sided as master, with Harvey Miller
installing officer, Mrs. Tacy Parker
marshal and Mrs. Bertha Nelson,
chaplain. Ed Clark of Heppner was
elected to membership in Lexington
grange.
Mr. and Mrs. J. F. McMillan left
by train Friday evening for Port
land. On Tuesday morning Mrs.
McMillan underwent a major opera
tion in a Portland hospital.
Otto Ruhl went to Pendleton
Thursday on business.
A Christmas program put on by
the Congregational and Christian
Sunday schools will be given at the
Christian church Sunday, Dec. 19,
at 7:30.
The regular P. T. A. meeting was
held last Wednesday evening. A
good program was rendered consist
ing of the following numbers: Piano
solo- "Flower Song" by Lange, Lou
ise Hunt; tap dance, Ladd Sher
man; Christmas Wishes by grade
girls and boys; song, Mrs. Trina Par
ker and Mrs. Carna Campbell; talk
on World Peace, Mrs. Alta Brown.
A movie entertainment was given
by James Leach and described by
Mrs. Leach, of their trip taken the
last summer. The pictures were
made in color.
A white elephant sale was held
with Elwynne Peck and Dan Dinges
as auctioneers. Eighteen dollars was
cleared to buy Christmas treats for
the kiddies.
Those present reported a very en
joyable evening.
Mayor T. L. Barnett has been ill
for the last week at his home.
The church services on Sunday
afternoons being conducted by the
Warner family will be discontinued
until better weather.
The Christian Endeavor meeting
will be held at 2:30 Sunday after
noon. Mrs. Harry Dinges is ill at her

David Hynd of Sand Hollow and
John Brosnan of Lena were business
visitors here Monday.
Five youngsters were entertained
at. the Rov CamDbell home last n
day at a surprise birthday party for
Roeer who celebrated his eleventh
birthday on that day. Those present
were Laurene and June van Winkle,
Lola Anne McCabe, Bobby Gray,
Norman Ruhl and Rotrer Campbell
Dallas Ward of Minneapolis who
has soent the last two weeks visit
ing with relatives and friends here
has returned to his home.
Charles Fraters and Charlotte
Gallagher of Eight Mile were visit
ing at the Eslie Walker home Tues

F. Warren of Corvallis is looking
after his business interests in this
Memorial hall on Saturday night,
Dec. 18.
Carl Allyn of lone was in Lexing
ton on business Tuesday.

School News

The local basketball quintet was
defeated by that of Umatilla on our
home floor Friday night, Dec. 10,
with a score of 40-14. The boys
worked hard and made it a good
game.
Robert Campbell is absent from
school this week as a result of in
juries sustained during the game
with Umatilla. He is expected back
within the next week.
The Christmas operetta, "When
Toys Come to Life," will be held
December 22nd. There will be a
community Christmas tree. Every
one is invited to come.
New curtains have been placed in
the girls' shower and dressing
rooms, and the girls are very proud
of them.
Don't forget "Tiptoe Inn" to be
held January 8 at the Lexington
high school auditorium.

Christmas Money

The negro minstrel and basket so
cial was enjoyed by a large crowd
Friday night. They made more than
fifty dollars clear. This money will
go for Christmas treats which will
be given away at a Christmas pro
gram December 22. Those who at
tended from the Lena district were
Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Brosnan, Mr.
and Mrs. John Brosnan, Mr. and
Mrs. Mickey McGuire and Harold
Mason. A dance was enjoyed af
terwards. The musicians were the
Troubadors from Echo.
A number of people from Butter
creek attended funeral services for
Ralph Stanfield in Echo, Monday.
Miss Dora Moore spent the week
end with Mrs. Joyce Smith. They
went to Pendleton Saturday.
Mr. and Mrs. John Harrison and
son, Johnny, were Walla Walla vis
itors Thursday.
Mr. and Mrs. E. B. Wattenburger
and family were dinner guests at the
Walter Wigglesworth home Sunday.
Lilly Rauch stayed at McGreer's
Monday evening.
Mr. and Mrs. Henry Rauch and
family of Lexington visited at the
Fred Rauch home Sunday.
W. D. Neill has purchased a new
Chevrolet car.
There is to be a quilting at the
J. S. Moore home Thursday. Every
body is welcome.
Mr. and Mrs. Frank Helms and
family visited at the Joe Foley
home Sunday evening.
Pendleton visitors Monday were
Fred Rauch and Mr. and Mrs. Bob
McGreer.
Norval Clark, son of Mr. and Mrs.
Tom Clark, was ill this week at the
home in the Jones apartments.
