HARDMAN NEWS
High School Play
Slated at Hardman
By OPAL HASTINGS
The high school play, "Bashful
Bobby," will be given at the high
school auditorium Nov. 20, at 7:45.
The cast includes all the high school
students, Miss Morton and Mrs. Mc
Cutcheon, the grade school teach
ers. There will be musical numbers
between acts by the members of the
high school. After the play there
will be a dance at the Odd Fellows
hall, and as they wish to start short
ly after 9 o'clock the high school will
start the play at 7:45 sharp. Admis
sion 15c and 25c.
Mrs. D. M. Owens of Portland was
interviewing the members of both
school boards on Thursday and
again on Saturday relative to the
purchase of two sets of the World
Book.
Miss Catherine Peterson of Pen
dleton and Jackson Gilliam of Hepp
ner called at the high school Friday
to make arrangements for delegates
to go to The Dalles Nov. 12 to the
convention of the Young Peoples'
Fellowship.
Miss Morton and her pupils pic
nicked on Rock creek last Friday.
They left the school at 11:30 and in
spite of rain, cold, and other mis
haps they had a happy time.
Mrs. Neal Knighten and children
and Miss Morton spent Sunday at
the home of Mr. and Mrs. Roy Neill
at Pine City.
Many primary pupils are making
reports on books read this year.
Owen Leathers, Jr., Cecile McDan
iel, Delmer Buschke and Norvin
Adams have turned in some inter
esting reports.
Among those attending the show
Saturday night were Miss Delsie
Bleakman, Raymond Ried, Mr. and
Mrs. Raymond McDonald and Monte,
Mrs. Richard Robison and Miss Loes
Stevens.
Mrs. Maude Robison has been vis
iting friends in Heppner for the past
few days.
Creston Robinson was a business
visitor in Heppner Saturday.
The "community sings" met at
7 o'clock Wednesday. Special num
bers were given by Mrs. Richard
Robison and Mildred and Irl Clary.

Morton and Mrs. Maude Robison

ah lodge last Tuesday.
Mr. and Mrs. Neal Knighten, Miss
Iris Morton, Mrs. McCutcheon, Mrs.
G. I. Clary and Mildred and Irl Clary
attended the show, The Good Earth,
in Heppner Monday evening.
The mountains were covered with
snow an inch deep Sunday but most
of it had melted by Monday morn
ing. Mr. and Mrs. Archie Barnard and
son Teddy and daughter Loye ac
companied by James Snipes visited
Mrs. Barnard's father, B. F. Devore,
Sunday.
The high school board held a spec
ial meeting here Saturday. All mem
bers were present except E. J. Mer
rill who is still ill.
Dr. A. D. McMurdo and Frank
Nickerson called at the home of
Owen Leathers Sunday.
Mr. and Mrs. Carl McDaniel of
Lone Rock stayed Sunday night at
the home of Mr. and Mrs. Owen
Leathers.
The following nimrods left Satur
day to hunt elk: Carey Hastings,
Buster Bleakman, Irl Clary, Burt
Burnside, Les Robinson, Delbert
Robinson, Guy Chapin, Art Robin
son, Owen Leathers, Dr. McMurdo
and Frank Nickerson.
W. L. Gosslin,' secretary to Gov
ernor Martin, is now being men
tioned as a possible Democratic can
didate for secretary of state. Goss
lin, who was also mentioned as a
possible candidate for congress, ad
mits that he is giving consideration
