Hardman Man's Son
Dies at Pendleton

Word has been received that Wil
liam DeVore of Pendleton, son of
B. F. DeVore, died after a prolonged
illness. He will,, be buried at Pendle
ton. Rita, Donald and Creston Robin
son, Irl Clary, Opal Hastings and
Richard Grockett were the high
school students who took the tuber
culosis test at the grade school last
Thursday.
Mrs. McCutcheon's primary room
Duoils are taking lessons on the har
monica. They are doing so welLthey
think they will be ready to compete
with the upper room soon.
The erade school is giving a play,
"Just a Little Mistake," on October
30 at 7:45 p. m. Admission 20c and
10c.
None of those of the Hardman
grade school who took the tubercu
losis test reacted unfavorably.
Those on the honor roll for spell
ing at the grade school are Alene
Inskeep, Ollie Hastings and Herbert
Schunk.
A birthday party was given on
Thursday in honor of Mrs. Maud
Robison. Delicious refreshments
were served.
Mr. and Mrs. Duff McKitric and
son moved Sunday to Phil Griffin's
ranch. Richard Robison moved their
household goods.
Mrs. Raymond McDonald and son
returned Sunday from the moun
tains where they have been staying
with Raymond while he is cutting
Neal Knighten, Miss Iris Mor
ton and Miss Juanita Leathers mo
tored to Portland Friday. Mr. 'arid
Mrs. Lew Knighten returned home
with them.
Among the successful hunters this
week were Frank McDaniel, Fan
Miller and Bernard Bleakman.
Roger (Yatch) Howell was report
ed injured in an automobile wreck.
He is in the hospital at Pendleton!
Mrs. Richard Robison was hon
oree at a bride's shower given Sat
urday, Oct. 9. There were about 30
present. Refreshments of cake, sand
wiches, jello and coffee were served
after the presents were opened.
A skift of snow covered the moun
tains October 3 and again later.
Initiation for the freshmen, Rita
Robinson, Vern McDaniel, Richard
Grockett and Irl Clary, was held
last Friday. The freshmen seemed
to enjoy it as much as anyone. There
were various doses and ceremonies
Most enjoyable was the honeymoon
trip. After the initiation everybody

SCHOOL DISTRICT BUDGET
NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN, that a budget committee of the Non-high
School District of Morrow County, State of Oregon, at a meeting of said
committee held on the 2nd day of October, 1937, prepared an estimate in
detail o the amount of money proposed to be expended by said Non-high
School District for all purposs during the fiscal year beginning June 21,
1937, and ending June 17, 1938, and an estimate in detail of the probable
receipts of said Non-high School District from all sources for the school
year 1937-1938- The Board of Education of said Non-high School District
has fixed the 30th day of October, 1937, at the hour of 2:30 at the Court
House in Heppner, Oregon, as the time and place at which said estimates
may be discussed with the Board of Education of said Non-high School
District, at which time and place any and all persons interested will be
heard for or against said tax levy or any part thereof. That said estimates
and attached original estimate sheets are on file in the office of the County
Superintendent of Schools and are there open to the inspection of all per
sons interested therein, and the same are by reference made a part thereof.

Mr. and Mrs. Carey Hastings mo
tored to Pendleton Monday. They
were accompanied by Mr. and Mrs.
Sam McDaniel and Mrs. Dick Steers.
Frank McDaniel is home for a few
days. He came to visit his relatives
from Washington. Les Robinson is
herding in his place.
Lois Stevens was dinner guest at
the home of Mr. and Mrs- Richard
Robison Sunday.
Mr. and Mrs- Elmer Knighten of
Condon were visiting at the home of
Mr. and Mrs. Neal Knighten Mon
