Funeral Services Held
For James A. Miller
By LUCILLE FARRENS
Funeral services were held for
James A. Miller at the community
church in Hardman Saturday. Mr.
Miller was born in Portland and
passed away in The Dalles at the age
of 61 years. The greater part of his
life was spent in Hardman. One
brother, Francis, of Hardman sur
vives. Miss Thurma Riggs of Heppner,
formerly of Arkansas, was a week
end euest of Miss Pat Bleakman.
Mr. and Mrs. Pence Brisbois of
Spray and Mrs. Bernice Kimmell of
Redmond were here to attend the
funeral of their uncle, Jas. Miller
Neal, Lewis and Henry Knighten
were business visitors in Heppner
Mondav.
Dud Flynn of Ritter was calling
in Hardman Sunday.
Clarence Rogers and Virgil Craw
ford of Kinzua were week-end vis
itors at the J. B. Adams home.
Ed Lyons was consulting a phy
sician in Heppner Monday for in
iuries received while working at
Reed's mill above Hardman. Joe
Howell motored him to Heppner
L. E. Bleakman spent a few days
last week in Cour d Alene, Idaho,
visiting relatives.
Mrs. Sam McDaniel, Jr., and Max
ine returned home Saturday from
Wall creek where they have been
spending the summer.
Misses Frances Inskeep, Charlotte
Adams and Mrs. Theo. Whacker at
tended the show in Heppner Wed
nesday evening.
Mrs. G. A. Farrens and daughter
Murl were visitors in Heppner Mon
dav.
Mr. and Mrs. Max Buschke and
family of Tamarack lookout were
out Saturday to attend the funera
of Mrs. Buschke's uncle. Jim Miller,
Mr. and Mrs. Victor Johnson
stopped here a short while Monday
on their wav to Heppner from the
Bull Prairie ranger station.
W. E. Francis was a business vis
itor here Sunday.

Mrs. Sylvia Page, all of Vale, ar
rived Sunday for a few days' visit
with Fan Miller.
Harold Glasscock who was re
cently injured in an automobile acci
dent near lone, is reported to be
getting along nicely. He is a patient
at the Heppner hospital
Pat. Delsie and Leslie Bleakman
and Thurma Riggs motored to Kin
zua Sunday.
Mr. and Mrs. Bob Clark of Port
land are visiting at the Floyd Ad
ams home. Misses Clara Belle and
Betty Jane Adams accompanied
them home from Portland where
they have been visiting their grand
parents, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Clark.
Mrs. Ethel McDaniel and children
and Miss Murl Farrens motored to
the mountains Sunday in search of
huckleberries.
Miss Vera McDaniel is spending
a few days at the Clyde Wright
home on Rhea creek.
Ed Clark was a business visitor
in Hardman Tuesday.
Mr. and Mrs. Frank Stewart of
Sparks. Okla., arrived Tuesday to
spend a few days visiting Mr. and
Mrs. Ad Inskeep. The Stewarts and
Inskeeps are old-time mends, Ins
keeps having come here from Okla
homa several years ago.

turned with them to spend a short
vacation.
Mrs. Agee's granddaughter, Frieda,
is visiting her this week.
Mr. and Mrs. W. E. McKebben and
children of Spokane, Mr. and Mrs.
Walter Turner and Mr. and Mrs
Donald Turner and son of Sunny
side, Wash., spent Sunday visiting
at the A. B. Black home.

lock, Cal., arrived last week to pick
melons.
Mr. and Mrs. Buster Rands have
moved into the Huff house this week.
H. E. Bates, Peter Farley, Percy
Rake and Francis Skoubo left Fri
day for Portland and Longview.
Francis is to visit her aunt in Port
land for some time.
Word was received this week that
Helen Slanger, a former resident of
Boardman, had married Mr. Alvm
Strain of Pendleton. The couple will
reside in Pendleton.
Dale and Donald Ford returned
this week from a short vacation in
Walla Walla where they visited their
grandparents.
There has been a great deal of
illness the past week. Among those
ill were Guy Barlow, Chloe Barlow,
Mr. Hankins. Pauline Strobel, and
several others. The flu seems to be
the main trouble.
Norman Hango returned home
this week from Portland where he
has been visiting for a short time
Virginia Compton and Betty Mc-
Kenzie returned home this week
from California, where they have
been visiting since Jun. They visited
Virginia s mother and sister.
Mrs. Blavden returned home Sun
day from Spokane where she has
been visiting. Her son Lyle Blayden
brought her home.
Mr. and Mrs. Alton Klitz of Port
land visited at his parents' home
over Sunday.
Mr. and Mrs. McEntire and chil
dren of New York arriver Sunday to
visit at the John McEntire home.
They will be here for some time.
Miss Echo Coats left last Friday
for a short vacation in Wallowa,
where she will visit the Mead fam
liy.. Miss Esther Jones is now em
ployed at the hotel.
The railroad oiling crew are now
working in Boardman. The men are
boarding at the hotel.
Mrs. Noel Klitz took Mrs. Atte
berry to Condon last week where
the latter was to visit Mr. and Mrs.
Alex Warren, who were residents

of Boardman at one time. Mrs. Klitz
met her husband there.
Mr. and Mrs. Vernon Morris and
Auburn Morris of Halfway visited at
the H. B. Thomas home Tuesday.
The Barlow garage is being re
modeled this week. The large door
is being moved over farther, so it
will make it easier to get on the
hoist.
Mr. and Mrs. Sullivan and chil
dren motored to Walpodt Saturday
where Mr. Sullivan will attend sum
mer school. Mr. Sullivan is the F.
F. A. teacher.
Miss Josephine McEntire of Pen
dleton spent Wednesday visiting her
parents.
The grange held a picmc at the
Coyote picnic grounds last Sunday.
A large crowd attended. They served
ice cream and weinies for the main
part of the meal.
Miss Etta Jones returned home
Saturday after spending a week vis
iting her uncle and aunt, Mr. and
Mrs. Phil Jones of Hermiston.
