Miss Ada Mae Harford of Arling ton visited on the project Saturday. Mrs. Bill La Londe and children from Idaho are visiting her mother and father, Mr. and Mrs. A. P. Ayers. Mrs. Tom Hunt and Donald re turned to Boardman with Mr. and Mrs. Art Allen on Friday. Mrs. Hunt is now a resident of Norih Powder. Maurice Hunt has been visiting in Boardman since last Thursday. He has been visiting all his old friends while here. Mr. and Mrs. H. E. Bates, La Vern and Harold Baker motored to Long view, Wash., to spend the week end and visit relatives. Mrs. Bates re mained in Longview to spend a cou ple of weeks visiting her son. Mrs. Nate Macomber was called to Nampa, Idaho, where her uncle had passed away. Mr. and Mrs. Gib Pettys and Nate Macomber motored to Pendleton on Saturday and came back by Pilot Rock and Mrs. Macomber returned home with them. The cannery will be open now on Tuesdays and Fridays. The highway department has put on more men this week The school election which was held Monday had the following re sults: Harry Jaynes was elected school director and Mrs. Claude Coats was reelected clerk. The bud get was adopted.' Joseph Belanger, county agent, with several soil conservation men visited the project Monday. They were looking over the conditions and the work that the men have been doing for several weeks. Mrs. Guy Barlow, Chloe Barlow, Mrs. J. F. Barlow and Mrs. S. C. Russell motored to Pendleton Tues day. Mr. and Mrs. B. H. Parsons and Hael Parsons spent the week end visiting in Spokane. Asta Skoubo, Mardell Gorham and Echo Coats returned home Friday after spending two weeks at the 4-H club summer school which was held at Corvallis. Mr. and Mrs. Claude Bartmess came with him but went on to Portland. Miss Josephine McEntire returned to her nurse training in Pendleton Sunday after spending her two weeks' vacation visiting her parents. Ernie Peck and Donald Strobel spent the latter part of the week in Portland. H. B. Thomas is spending the week in Umatilla where he is holding va cation Bible school. Mrs. Everett Harshman and son Gay were calling in town Sunday. Annual school meeting of District 40 was held Monday. Owen Leath ers was elected director to serve three years and Mrs. Ella Farrens was re-elected clerk. Ed Clark was a business visitor from Heppner Monday. Mr. and Mrs. Neal Knighten are driving a new Ford. E. Jay Merrill and daughter Ho were week-end visitors in Heppner. Mr. and Mrs. Victor Lovgren, Miss Gladys Lovgren of Eight Mile and Mrs. Gene Lovgren and daughter Mary of Hillsboro were visiting Mr. and Mrs. Al Lovgren Saturday. Lester Wick of Lonerock visited his sister, Mrs. Al Lovgren one day last week.. Kenneth Bleakman is attending fire school. Mrs. Bleakman and Neta Rae will stay in Heppner. Mr. Bleak man is at Tupper ranger station again this season. CAMP HEPPNER NEWS John Caton and Joseph Parente, enrollees, have been transferred to the Vancouver barracks hospital. An ambulance was summoned from Camp Hilgard to transport Caton who suffered an attack of appendi citis. Whether he will receive an operation or not is unknown at pres ent. Parente is expected to under go an operation for foot trouble. First Lieut. Joseph P. Donnelly has started a class in aviation. Don nelly is an officer in the 'air reserve branch. Marvin E. Dixon, camp educational adviser, has resumed his instruction course in geology. This course was one of the most interesting ever giv en at the camp. Last summer, the members of the class made trips to John Day valley fossil beds, the opal mines on the French ranch and to several Indian burial sites. Material for the spike camp which is to be located near Ditch creek has arrived at camp and it is believed that buliding construction will soon start. Jiime Saraiva, Donald Demers, Thornton Dunn and Oscar Newton, members, were discharged recently to re-enter private employment, Demers has gone to Massachusetts, Saraiva has accepted a warehouse job in Portland, Dunn and Newton are employed locally. Newton will be a driver on the Heppner-Pendle ton stage run. Waldo Irbin, camp artist, has re ceived a request to donate one of his oil paintings of landscape de sign to the permanent exhibition of the ninth corps area. William M. Nolan, assistant edu cational adviser, presented a talk on life in the CCC, from the enrollee's viewpoint, at the last meeting of the Lions club, held at the Heppner ho tel. John Barber, camp member, vocalized before and after luncheon, Captain William R. Reynolds, camp commander, Millard D. Rodman, pro ject superintendent, and Marvin E, Dixon, educational adviser are mem bers of the local Lions club. At a recent election, Captain Reynolds was elected third vice-president and Mr. Rodman was elected tail twister, Jim Hams and J. E.
