Pine City School
Closes; Teachers Go

School closed Monday at noon. All
children were glad for a vacation.
Miss Dora E. Moore left for her
home at Rainier to spend the sum
mer. Mrs. Ray J. Pinson is spend
ing the summer with her parents in
Salem. Mrs. Joyce Smith is spend
ing her vacation at her home in Ir
rigon. Guy Moore and Malcolm O'Brien
are attending the two-weeks' sum
mer school in Corvallis for the 4-H
club work.
Mr. and Mrs. Frank Helms and
daughter and Mr. and Mrs. Fred
Rauch left Monday for Spokane to
attend the graduation of Miss Char
lotte Helms.
A group of young people gathered
in at the E. B. Wattenburger home
Wednesday evening to give Mr. and
Mrs. Dale Akers a hearty welcome
and wish them much joy.
Mrs. Lon Wattenburger is spend
ing a week with her daughter, Mrs.
.Reid Buseick, at Long creek. Mrs.
Buseick is very ill.
Mr. and Mrs Charlie Plourd spent
Sunday at the Dee Neill home.
Roy Neill is on his way to Mon
tana with his sheep for the summer.
Lloyd Baldridge is driving through
with the car and cook wagon.
Mrs. Lucy Rodgers gave a splen
did talk to the pupils and parents
at Pine City Friday afternoon in
honor of the eighth grade and one
senior who graduated.
Charivari Tendered
Eight Mile Couple
About fifty friends called on Mr.
and Mrs. Dale Akers and gave them
a charivari last Friday night.
Mrs. Beulah Bell accompanied by
Mrs. Vera Reed, is home from Mon
mouth visiting her parents, Mr. and
Mrs. Joe Batty.
Among the teachers spending their
vacation in the Eight Mile commu
nity are Miss Marvel Akers who
taught in Weiser, Idaho, Misses Dor
othea Anderson and Wilma Tague
from Estacada and Miss Velma Hus
ton from Elkton, Ore.
Mrs. John Bergstrom has been
staying in town with her mother who
has been on the sick list.
A party of friends motored to the
S. T. Robison mountain home Sun
day night. Those going were Mr.
and Mrs. C. R. Beckett, Mr. and Mrs.
Ben Anderson, Mr. and Mrs. Walter
Beckett, Dorothea Anderson and
Wilma Tague.
Mrs. Hilma Anderson went to Ar
lington Saturday night to meet her
son Frank who is returning from
school at Corvallis.
Miss Velma Huston left Sunday
for Redmond. She was accompan
ied as far as The Dalles by her moth
er, Mrs. Clive Huston, who goes as
a delegate to the state grange.
Harlan and Boyd Devin are guests
at the home of their aunt and uncle,
Mr. and Mrs. Loyal Parker, while
their parents, Mr. and Mrs. Harlan
Devin of Condon are enjoying a
weeks vacation trip to Portland and
the coast.

Court Proceedings
For May Term
Court met on Wednesday, the 6th
day of May, with all members present.
The minutes of the April term were
read and approved.
The claims against the -county were
presented and the Court allowed, con
tinued or disallowed them, and ordered
approved claims paid by proper warrant
from the proper funds.
The order of the last term of court,
wherein $100.00 was allowed for the
salary of a nurse to examine school
children to be used over a period of
three months at 33 and 1-3 dollars per
month was rescinded and the amount
was allowed to be used over a period of
two months at the rate of $50 per month
for the same purpose.
Court agreed to allow American Le
gion to use the dance hall for one night
to give a smoker for the benefit of the
swimming pool fund.
Court agreed to allow Hunters and
Anglers club to use the dance hall in
which to give dinner and show.
Court authorized the purchase of
Shepard's Citations for the District At
torney. Hose racks were ordered to be In
stalled at the Courthouse water hy
drants. H. V. Smouse, R. B. Rice, Omar Rlet
mann and William J. Doherty were ap
pointed as inspectors of the Wind Ero
sion District.

Court 'agreed to let City of Lexington
use the patrol or grader run by L. N.
Morgan to grade Lexington Main street
at the rate of $15.00 per day for man
and machine.
Court purchased a Galeon Diesel pa
trol irom reenaugniy Macninery uo.
Section 25, in Twp. 2 North, Range
24, EWM, was ordered leased to Neil
Doherty for grazing purposes at the
rate of $20.00 per year.
The Sheriff was ordered to advertise
and sell the NEM-NE'iSE, SEVi NE4
Section 9, and SWNWy4, NWSW,
Section 10, Twp. 1 South Range 24, E.
W. M., for a minimum of $140.00. 20
per cent down and remainder on time
payments.
Also Lot 4 in Block 1, Adams 2nd Ad
dition to Hardman for $10.00.
Also Lots 10 and 11 in Block 6, Town
of Boardman for $10.00 per lot.
Court agreed to sell section 36, Twp.
3 North Range 24, EWM, to Neil Doher
ty for $319.00.
