Mr. and Mrs. H. a. Thomas ana children motored to Spokane Mon day. They will return later. Mr. Thomas was called there on busi ness. Commencement was held Thurs dav evening in the high school audi torium. A capacity crowd enjoyed the exercises. Mr. Miller of Salem pave the address. There were nine seniors to take part in the exercises. After the exercises dancing was en invpd in the evmnasium, followed by a lovely banquet for the seniors and their guests, given by the alum ni association School was out Friday with all of the teachers returning to their homes. Edwin Ingles intends to at tend summer school in California this summer. Those who are to re turn next year are Mr. Anderson, Miss Brennan, Miss Tildon and Miss Gibbons. Miss Glenn, our third and fourth grade teacher, is to be mar ried this summer. Jack Gorham and Donald Strobel went to Pendleton Saturday where Mr. Gorham had five ulcers removed from his eye. He was reported doing fairly well. A. B. Black returned home last week in time to give the exams for the classes he taught. Mr. Black left the first of May to take over the job of bee inspector and will re turn to his work Tuesday. Mr. and Mrs. Jess Allen, Mr. and Mrs. Art Allen and children and Mildred Allen returned last week from a two-weeks' trip to Nebras ka. Mrs. Allen, a sister-in-law of Jess Allen, of Nebraska, returned with them. A farewell party was given Wed nesday evening in honor of Mr. and Mrs. Edwin Ingles. A large crowd attended and the evening was spent in playing games and refreshments of ice cream and cake were served later in the evening. Missinnarv meeting was held, at the home of Mrs. McCutcheon Wed nesdav afternoon. About twenty women attended. Doris Wlson is visiting a short time in Arlington with her sister, Mrs TVin MfClaskev. who will be re membered as Elsie Wilson. Lucile Tvler left Friday for Ar lington where she will be employed for a time. The Plunkett show was given in Boardman Sunday. It was a travel ing tent show and a good time was reported bv all who attended The telephone crew which has been employed here for some time loft Mondav after finishing their work here. Mr. Compton has purchased a new black Chevrolet after returning from a short trip around Spokane. Miss Marguerite Harford spent Wednesday. Thursday and Friday visiting at the homes of friends. Miss t.n see her sister graduate. Ada Mae returned to Portland with her. George Harford was a business visitor on the project Friday. Miss Lina Rose spent the week end visiting a the homes of friends. Miss Rose resides at Umatilla. John Jenkins and Glen Hadley left Sunday for a short trip on which they intend to shear sheep. Mr. Bleakney, who is the father of Neal Bleakney, left Monday for the mountains where he will spend the summer. His grandsons, Donald and Pat went with him. Mr. and Mrs. Glen Carpenter and daughter Zelda spent the week end visiting on the Boardman project. They are now residents of Portland. Mrs. Belle Darrah of San Diego, Calif., is visiting at the N. A. Mc comber home. Mrs. Darrah is Mr. Macomber's sister. The Townsend club ladies have the quilt which they have been making for some time ready to sell. Mr. and Mrs. J. S. Burdell of Em mett, Idaho, visited at the S. C. Rus sell home last week. Miss Betty McKenzie of Umatilla is a guest at the Compton home this week. Miss McKenzie was a grad uate at Umatilla this year. Mr. and Mrs. Monte Beers and family of Odell stopped at the S. C. Russell home to spend the week end. The Beers family was enroute to Idaho where they will visit a sister of Mr. Beers and Mrs. Russell. HARDMAN By LUCILLE FARRENS Mr. and Mrs. Earl Redding of Hood River are visiting Mrs. Red ding's parents, Mr. and Mrs. B. H. Bleakman. Mrs. Walter Farrens is making an indefinite visit with her husband at his sheep camp near Heppner. Mr. and Mrs. Max Buschke mo tored to The Dalles Saturday to take Jim Miller to the hospital there. Fan Miller accompanied them. Mr. and Mrs. Dick Steers and Mr. and Mrs. Sam McDaniel were busi ness visitors in Heppner Saturday. Commencement exercises for the high school graduating class were held Thursday evening. The class consisted of two, Pat Bleakman and Roland Farrens. The stage was beau tifully decorated in the class colors, blue and white. Frank Alfred of Heppner delivered the commence ment address. Mrs. Lucy E. Rod- gers, county school superintendent, gave a short talk and presented the diplomas. Mrs. Neal Knighten sang two songs accompanied by Mrs. Wal ter Wright. Miss Maxine McDaniel is spend ing the week in the mountains with her aunt, Mrs. Kinnard McDaniel. Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Musgrave of Fox were week-end visitors of Mr. and Mrs. Wes Stevens. Miss Lois Stevens accompanied them home. Many of the young people attend ed the dances at Rhea creek and Lonerock. Everett and Clifford Howell passed through here Saturday on their way to Lonerock. Virgil Crawford of Kinzua was calling in town Saturday. Mrs. Jim Burnside, who has been quite ill the past week, is reported to be improving. Her friends wish her a speedy recovery. Miss Vera McDaniel is visiting Miss Freda Ball at the Glen Far rens ranch this week. Mrs. Victor Johnson and daugh ters of Heppner spent last week with Mrs. Raymond McDonald. Mrs. Floyd Adams of Heppner and her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Clark ot Portland were visiting Floyd Adams at his ranch below Hardman one day last week.
