Look! Listen! AT 4:30 P. M., July 9th, an auto mobile, apparenUy under speed control, was approaching highway crossing in a city. Engineer of ap proaching streamliner train, believ ing driver would stop, sounded warning signal, and although driv er appeared to observe the train, he drove onto crossing, and rear ot automobile was struck and demol ished. Driver fortunately escaped injury. At 9:10 A. M., July 16th, an auto mobile, moving at a slow rate of speed, approached a crossing In a town. Enginer of streamliner train saw automobile, but was so certain the driver would stop before reach ing the crossing he did not decrease speed, although he sounded warn ing signal. Driver appeared to ap ply brakes, but ran onto crossing in front of train and was struck, Driver and passenger sustained su perficial injuries. At 8:03 A. M., July 25th, an auto- mobile was seen by engineer of streamliner train approaching crossing where view was somewhat obstructed by buildings. He lmme- diately applied brakes and sounded warning signals, and had train nearly at a stop when automobile drove onto crossing, was struck and demolished. At 5:09 P. M., July 27th, an auto mobile stalled on road crossing in a town. Driver attempted to push car off the rails, but was unable to do so before being struck by streamliner train. Engineer unable Jto bring his train to a complete stop after getting close enough to see that automobile was on track. A woman occupant of the automo bile was seriously injured. Streamliner trains move at a high rate of speed, frequently 100 feet or more per second. In each of the above incidents the driver of the car may have underestimated the speed of the streamliner train. The railroad is making every ef fort to avoid crossing accidents, ex hausting every means to do so. Every citizen along our line can materially aid in this by themselves remembering and bringing notice of their friends to the short time consumed between the time train is seen approaching and time it reaches the crossing. Your assistance in reducing this serious damage to property and menace of life is most earnestly solicited, says W. M. Jeffers, execu tive vice president, Union Pacific railroad. A Fine Tribute. "CAGA of A Cowboy" is the four double-column contribution of rhyme by C. A. Minor, Morrow county pioneer, to last week's edi tion of Wheeler County Chronicle, It is a fine tribute in verse written specially for pioners on Service creek. Mr. Minor, now leading merchant of Mt.
