Es pecially in the case of local candi dates, those seeking office are gen rally well enough known without editorial comment. However, be cause of the nature of the case, an exception is being made for Ben rC Litfln, publisher of The Dalles Chronicle, who seeks election to the post of delegate to the Repub lican national convention, state-at-large. In the case of delegates to na tional conventions, no remunera tion is involved. The candidate elected pays his own way. But it to the Interest of this section to have a capable representative on the job. Litfln has an outstanding record in journalistic work, having been selected by his fellow publish ers as president of the state edi torial association. He is honest, capable, sincere, with rare organiz ing ability combined with sound judgment and broad vision. This paper gladly recommends him as worthy of the choice of Morrow county republicans. Most of the teachers and pupils of the county schools will be in Heppner tomorrow for the annual May Day fete. The spirit of com petition will prevail in athletic and spelling matches, and cooperation in the staging of the big music fes tival In the evening. The event climaxes activities of the school year. It is an event that will give pleasure and profit to everyone who attends. The city is honored by no happier occasion at any time dur ing the year. Librarians from over the district enjoyed Heppner's hospitality in an enjoyable conference yesterday. Stimulus was given to more and better reading. Another worth while achievement. "April showers bring May flow ers," says an old adage. The coun ty was blessed with good showers this week. May blossoms are hoped for in profusion. CCC'S COMPLIMENTED. To the Editor: Aa a casual but not disinterested observer, I have watched the work of the local CCC camp since its in stallation. The camp has been started and maintained without any blare of self advertisement The work has been carried out quietly. The boys have been well behaved and mannerly, tending to their own business in a gentlemanly way. They have asked for no credit for the work they are doing and got none, at least from local people. One piece of work they have done has meant thousands of dollars to the crops of Willow creek val ley. They have brought in as much water on the spring flow from Ditch creek as originally run on spring flow from Willow creek, yet the town of Heppner cannot afford to give them the water for a swim ming tank and in all probability the boys will have to go to the Colum bia if they want anything more than drinking water. This camp probably spends up wards of a thousand dollars a month in Heppner through the spending money of the boys and other miscellaneous purchases. Standing on the side lines, it looks as though it was little appreciated. The least that could be done would be to offer them water for a tank; maybe some of our home youngsters could also use it I have a son, raised in Heppner, now nineteen years old, who has never yet seen more water than could be drawn in a bath tub. He has been barred from advancing in Scout work because he nevei learned to swim. This may seem a digression from what I originally Intended to say, but hte point is that Heppner treats the CCC Just like they were home folks. Com plete neglect and ignoring their existence. Maybe its a compliment. F, F. WEHMEYER. Excellent results from the use of Gazette Times Want Ads are re ported to us each week. 12 00 6.00 LOO Three Months , .
