Gorham and daughter Mardel were guests Sun day at the Roy Wolfe home at Bla- lock. Mrs. Eva Warner visited several days last week at the Y. P. Ruth erford home. Rev. H. B. Thomas conducted the Bible vacation school in Umatilla last week. Chloe Barlow and Echo Coats are ill this week with measles. Mr. and Mrs. Lauren Blayden and famliy of Kennewck spent Sunday here with the former's parents. Mr. and Mrs. George Blayden. Mr. and Mrs. Lynne Ranney and daughter Phyllis and Mr. Ranney's sister left Monday on a motor trip to Seattle. The Ladies Aid social meeting was held last Wednesday afternoon at the home of Mrs. N. A. Macom ber. A large number of ladies were present Refreshments were served by the hostesses, Mesdames Guy Barlow, Arthur Allen, J. F. Bar low, N. A. Macomber and Bryce Dillabough. Mrs. H. B. Thomas spent several days in Portland last week. The Thimble club met last Fri day with Mrs. Olive Atteberry. Mr. and Mrs. Lee Mead and Cathryne of Wallowa visited during the week end at the Bryce Dilla bough home. Paul Mead who working at The Dalles spent Sunday here with his parents. Allen Dilla bough returned to Wallowa with the Meads. Basil Cramer of Colville motored here last Friday for a few days visit at the home of his grandparents. J. F. Barlow motored to The Dal les last Thursday. Allen Chaffee left Saturday for Eugene where he will work during the summer. Norvel Shannon spent the week end with his parents. He is work ing in a CCC camp at Enterprise. The father of George and Robert Mitchell is visiting with them this week. L W. Compton and daughter Virginia spent several days In Port land last week. A large crowd of Boardman peo ple attended the dance in Arling ton last Friday night G. F. Harford, Ada May and Mar guerite spent the week end in Port land attending the Rose Festival. Francis Ranney visited over the week end with Mr. and Mrs. Ash. LEAVE FOB SUMMER SCHOOL. The Heppner contingent of stu dents attending the summer vaca tion Bible school of the Episcopal church at Cove motored over Sun day in cars of Mr. and Mrs. W. L. Blakely, Miss Catherine Peterson and Rev. Ralph V. Hinkle. The school started Monday to run for two weeks. Those attending are El sie Crump, local winner of the bishop's scholarship, Zelma Eskel son, Ruth Cowins, Louise Ander son, Juanita Phelps, Bobbie Fort ner, Scott McMurdo, Patricia Ca son, Dan Chinn. T. Campbell, Judge ; Frank 8. Parker, Commissioner ; George N. Peck, Commissioner; C. W. Bar low, Clerk ; S. E. Noteon, District Attor ney ; C. J. D. Bauirmn, Sheriff. Minute of the last meeting were read and approved. At this time the Court approved, con tinued or disallowed the various claims pesented against the County and ordered approved claims paid by proper warrant from the proper funds. As the construction of the new bridge on Rhea Creek near the Rustic ranch has destroyed the watering hole for stock just below the old bridge at this point, the Court decided to take .the matter up with the State Highway Commission and see If it could not be arranged to have the creek banks sloped so as to allow stock to water as before. In the matter of vacation of roads, the engineer reported on the following roads, and the matter ordered continued: Begin- ning in Section 86, Township 1, South lis n ire 26, E. W. M. ; the road '4 mile East of Eijrhtmile Post Office. In the matter of C, D. Huston for Road Vacation, the engin eer's report of the road 1 4 miles East of Eghtmile Post Office was received and the road ordered cloned.
