FORESHADOWING THE MAY.
ANOTHER election year is at
hand. And even though much
time remains for filing before the
May primaries, candidates are be
ginning to buzz about not unlike
those pesky flies whose lives were
prolonged by the mild winter.
In the national limelight will be
the race for U. S. senator, with
Chas. L. McNary, incumbent, al
ready being brought strongly into
the glare. The governorship will
hold the spotlight of state interest,
while in this congressional district
there will be the choice of a repre
sentative in congress, and in the
state legislative district two rep
resentatives to the legislature are
to be named.
So far, Chas. H. Martin, demo
crat, is the only announced guber
natorial candidate. It is expected
Walter M. Pierce will again hold
forth for the congressional post he
now holds, while Jay H. Upton,
state senator from Deschutes coun
ty, is being approached by numer
ous friends to make the race. There
is yet no indication as to how the
state representative races will line
up.
In the county the offices of assess
or, treasurer and one commissioner
will be open, with no announced
candidates as yet

Friendship
Have you ever been without
friend? Have you ever been in a
strange place where you knew no
one?
If you have you probably realize
what a friend means. A true friend
is a person to whom you go when
you are in trouble. When you are
in luck, you will share the luck
with this friend and if he is a friend
he, too, will share his luck with
you.
High school gives an excellent op
portunity to make friends that you
can fall back on in later life.
Hehisch Committee Meeting
The Hehisch committee held a
meeting at 9:00 Tuesday morning
to decide on a suitable punishment
for persons who persisted in break
ing conduct rules in the gymnasium
during the last home basketball
game.
The actions taken bv the enm
mittee are secret and will be kept
so until Friday when the unfortun
ate persons will receive their pun
ishment before the assembled stu
dent body.
The Hehisch committee is a group
consisting of two delegates from
each class and the student body
president who is chairman of the
committee. The members are elect
ed at the annual student bodv elec.
tion. Thir dutv is to enforce nnd
govern all student body regulations
and activities. There is a set of
rules regarding conduct in the gym
nasium which is designed to keep
students orderly.
The members of the committee
may be identified by the purple and
gold arm band which they wear
whenever on official duties.
The members of the committee
are stationed in the gymnasium.
When or if any student creates a
disturbance, he is warned hv the
nearest committeeman. If he does
not heed the warning his name is
submitted at the next committee
meeting and mmishment cornea in
due course. If the accused student
thinks he is being treated unfairly,
he may petition the student council
which will investigate the condi
tions and decide the case.
If any committee member is
found to be playing favorites, or
taking advantage of his or her au
thority, he or she may be removed
from the committee by action of
the student council. This is to pro
tect the rights of students.

Team Makes Trip
Heppner's basketball squad made
a two-day trip last week end. The
team played at Adams Friday and
were defeated in a hard fought
game by a score of 22-17. Heppner
showed a very marked improve
ment over the previous games with
Adams and Mac-Hi. Adams had
a very positive advantage by play-

Saturday, the boys journeyed on
to McLaughlin high where they
suffered a second defeat As be
fore, the team showed much im
provement. They played a fast,
experienced team with Mac-Hi's

Players who made the trip were

Well, well, here I am speaking on
advice which I personally recom
mend sometimes. Now as I might
as well begin now as any other
time, here goes. Ladies and gentle
men, and friends, If you are, this
world of ours is really pneumatic.
It's just like the tires on a car, and
speaking of a car, never go any
where without first looking at the
water and oil, also the gas. Oh,
yes, it is also bad to drink water
with your soup. It doesn't make
too much difference whether it is
chicken or raspberry soup. And as
long as we're talking about chick
ens, there's the little matter of
dressing chicking. Or dressing
yourself; personally, I like red ties
which reminds me that that's the
danger color my girl wears a
crimson dress. Danger brings to
by mind auto accidents. I ran over
a horned toad and punctured a
tire. Thus I quote, Blow your
horn on nearing a curve." She may
be crossing the road. And speak
ing of roads, never take a bad look
ing one. take the best.
Well, I see my time has about
evaporated so I'll toddle along un
til this time next week; tweet tweet
birdies.
