The first Parent-Teachers meet
ing of this school year was held In
the auditorium Saturday evening.
The following officers were elected
to serve for the ensuing year: Guy
Barlow, president; Miss Khoda
Shellenberger, vice-president; Miss
Miriam Campbell, secretary, and
Mrs. Claud Coats was reelected
treasurer. After the business meet
ine a social time was enjoyed.
Lunch was served in the cafeteria
late in the evening.
Mr. and Mrs. Fred Burns and ba
by of Missouri and Mrs. S. E. Burns
of Portland visited at tne rtoyai
Rands home Wednesday while en
route to Missouri. Mr. and Mrs.
Fred Burns and baby have been
visiting in Oregon for some time
and were returning to their home
accompanied by the formers motn-
er. The Burns family lived in
Boardman a number of years ago
when S. E. Burns was superinten
dent of the Boardman school.
Miss Rhoda Shellenberger, Miss
Miriam Campbell and John Steel
hammer were guests at a lovely
dinner Wednesday evening at the
W. O. King home.
Mr. Reese, who lives on the Ira
Berger ranch, spent last week In
Portland, returning home Saturday.
John Steelhammer spent the
week end in Portland.
Rev. and Mrs. W. O. Miller of
Umatilla were dinner guests at the
M. K. Flickinger home Wednesday
evening. After dinner they joined
the members of the Bible class of
the Sunday school at the E. T. Mes
senger home where they practiced
songs for the Rally Day program,
Mrs. Royal Rands and Donna
Jane returned home last week from
Walla Walla and Freewater where
they had been visitnig relatives.
Mr. Bennett of Willow creek
spent Sunday at the Ellis home.
Glenn Rutherford and Tom
Healey returned home Friday from
Salem where they had been for
some time.
Mr. and Mrs. Ramsey and little
daughter, and Leo and Joe Gorger
spent Sunday at the Cooney home.
Mr. and Mrs. D. W. Miller, with
Rev. W. O. Miller of Umatilla mo
tored to Bend Tuesday morning
where they will attend the meet
ing of the Pendleton Presbytery.
Charles Wicklander of La Grande
attended Pomona Grange Saturday
at lone and visited Sunday in
Boardman. Gladys Wicklander
who has been here for several
weeks returned home with him
Sunday evening.
Deibert Johnson from The Dalles
spent the week end at home.
Mr. and Mrs. Hobert Helms of
Hermiston spent Monday at the
Ves Atteberry home.
Mr. and Mrs. Pete Slevin were
Pendleton visitors Saturday.
Albin Sunsten's sister and her
husband, Mr and Mrs Carl Reuter-
skiold, and brother, Arthur Sund

their recreation to play together. They constantly
seed community betterment.
Local and county fairs are tending to become
club fairs, club members exhibting more than 50 per
cent of all exhibts In a number of livestock and coun
ty fairs last year.

sten home. On Saturday and Sun-1
day Albin and Arthur Sundsten and
Carl Reuterskiold went deer hunt-
inb but like many of the others,
they returned without the deer.
Mr. and Mrs. Leo Cooney and
family enjoyed a lovely dinner at
the Lee Mead home Sunday eve
ning. A number of Boardman Grange
members attended Pomona Grange
in lone Saturday. When the count
was taken it was found that Board
man had 29 members there, the
largest delegation from the visiting
granges. In the afternoon Senator
Steiwer gave an interesting ad
dress. Mr. and Mrs. A. Allen and family
of La Grande visited in Boardman
Sunday.
Mrs. Sundsten gave a birthday
party Thursday afternoon for her
son Albin. When school was out
Mrs. Sundsten came and took the
pupils of the second grade to her
home where they spent the remain
der of the afternoon playing games.
There were thirteen guests present
Refreshments were served to the
little folks and then Mrs. Sundsten
took them to their homes.
Jack Rainville went deer hunting
during the week end and returned
home Sunday evening with a large
deer. Noel Klitz and Bud Chaffee
also went deer hunting last week
but they were not as lucky as Mr.
Rainville.
The new Seventh Day Adventist
pastor for the lower Columbia dis
trict is Elder Nearness, who will
have his headquarters in Pendleton.
Elder and Mrs. Nearness visited at
the Ves Atteberry home Monday
evening. Church services will be
held in the Adventist church Sat
urday afternoon at 2 o'clock. All
are invited to attend.

MRS. ELLA FARRENS.
The high school has begun prac
tice on a three-act comedy play, "A
Ghost in the House," with Mrs.
Knighten as their coach. They ex
pect to present it about the second
week in November.
A singing school has been organ
ized under the supervision of Mrs.
Henry Coats. It meets every Sun
day night at the church. .
The ladies of the community had
a meeting Friday afternoon to de
cide on a quilt pattern to be used
to make a quilt which will be raf
fled off some time in the near fu
ture. The proceeds are to be used
to buy weenies for a weenie roast
to celebrate Armistice Day.
Elwood and John Hastings re
turned home Sunday after spend
ing a few days in the mountains
hunting. Their prizes were two
buck deer.
Miss Marjorie Montgomery spent
the week end visiting at the home
of Mr. and Mrs. Glenn Farrens.
Eldred Stanton of Walla Walla
spent the week visiting his cousins
at the John Stevens home.
Mr. and Mrs. Clair Ashbaugh.
Mrs. Lew Knighten and Mrs. Hen
ry Coats were business visitors in
Heppner one day this week.
Mr. and Mrs. Wes Stevens and
daughter Lois made a trip to the
Musgrave place near lone for fruit
and vegetables Sunday. They
brought home their winter's supply
of squash and apples.
Mr. and Mrs. John Adams and
Mrs. Chapin were dinner guests of
Mrs. C. H. McDaniel one day last
week.
Mrs. Lorena Isom was visiting
relatives here Sunday.
Miss Mary Saling spent last week
visiting Mr. and Mrs. Gerald Boo
her in Heppner.
Mr. and Mrs. Severance are visit
ing old time friends here this week.
They were former stockgrowers
here, owning the place now belong
ing to Glenn Farrens.
Mrs. Bert Bleakman and chil
dren were visiting with Mr. and
Mrs. Kenneth Bleakman at the
Tupper ranger station this week
end.
Frank McDaniel was a visitor
here Sunday.
The first rain in several months
fell here Sunday.
Mrs. Bill Lowens and Mrs. Ezrie
Adkins, former residents of this
community, visited at the home of
Mrs. Corda Sailng a few days this
week. While here they were quite
busy shaking hands with old time
friends.
Mr. and Mrs. Eck Warren were
visiting friends and relatives here
Sunday.
Jim Inskeep, who has been work-
ng for the past several months at
the Wagner ranch near lone, re
turned home Friday to visit a while
with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ad
Inskeep.
Mr. and Mrs. O. E. Johnson were
transacting business in Heppner
Saturday.
Mrs. Dick Steers has moved in
from the mountains to spend the
winter here.
