The North Morrow County fair
held in Boardman in the gymna
sium Friday and Saturday was well
attended by local and out of town
people. A number of visitors mo
tored over from Heppner, Lexing
ton and lone on Saturday. The ex
hibits, although not as numerous
as in other years, were beautifully
displayed. Many lovely flowers
were on exhibit The art division
for the fair was a. new feature this
year and it had many pretty and
original entries. The children of
the 4-H clubs of Boardman had
their work on display. The tallest
corn stalk measured 16 feet and
the largest squash weighed about
68 pounds. There was only one en
try in the individual farm exhibit
booth and was well worthy of first
prize. This was owned by Mr. and
Mrs. Myers of Boardman. There
were 114 products in their booth
which were all grown on their farm
and with no two alike. The prod
ucts consisted of various vegetables,
fruits, grasses and grains. Judges
for the fair were: Miss Jessie Pal
miter, home economics teacher of
the Heppner high school, judge of
the sewing and cooking, 4-H club
work and domestic science; Mrs. Ed
Huston of Heppner, judge of flow
ers, domestic art and art work
A. I. Poulson of the Union Pacific,
judge of the agricultural products
and poultry; Garnett Best, assist
ant county agent of Hermiston
judge of the livestock. The home
economics club had a booth where
they sold cold drinks and hamburg
er sandwiches. Sports were held
Friday afternoon and in the eve
ning a movie was given by the fair
board. On Saturday the Irrigon
4-H club band entertained the
crowd with their music. In the af
ternoon the girls 4-H club demon
strations were held in the school
auditorium after which the live
stock demonstrations were given
outside. The boys' camp cooking
club demonstrated their method of
making biscuits and cooking them
over a camp fire. The dance Sat
urday evening was well attended,
and enjoyed by all. The music was
excellent and was furnished by the
Kaufman orchestra of Pendleton.
Officers for the fair were: Leo
Root of Boardman, president; Mrs.
Claud Coats of Boardman, secre
tary; Mrs. Isom of Irrigon, treas
urer. The directors were Frank
Fredrickson and Mrs. A. C. Hough
ton of Irrigon and George Wick
lander and Ingard Skoubo of Board
man. Mrs. Lucy Rodgers, county
school superintendent, Chas. W.
Smith, county agent, the 4-H clubs
and the superintendents of the va
rious divisions and the fair board
and directors spent much time in
making the fair a success.
Mr. and Mrs. Chris Faler of Port
. land and Mr. and Mrs. Benson of
Alderdale were visitors last week
at the Channing home.

Mr. and Mrs. Carrick spent Wed

A. T. Hereim had an auction sale
at his ranch last Thursday to dis
pose of all of his household goods.
He. sold his ranch last week to T.
Hunt of Blalock. Mr. Hereim and
son left Sunday afternoon by stage
for Boulder, Colorado, where he
will join Mis. Hereim and son Or
thun. Mrs. Hereim was called to
the bedside of her parents in Boul
der last May and has been there
since that time. They are unde
cided yet as to what they will do.
but will probably stay in Boulder
for a while. Mr. and Mrs. Hereim
have been residents of Boardman
for the past eleven years, and were
willing workers in community af
fairs. Mrs.- Hereim was an active
member of the P. T. A. society and
of the ladies aid. Mr. and Mrs.
Hereim and sons, A. T. and Orthun,
will be missed by their many
friends, whose best wishes go with
them to their new home.
Grange will meet Saturday eve
ning, September 19. The lecture
hour, which opens at 8:00 p. m., will
be an open meeting to which every
one is welcome. S. E. Notson of
Heppner will give a talk on taxes,
and Chas. Smith will talk about
pasture grasses.
Mr. and Mrs. J. E. Price of Port
land are visiting at the A. W. Price
home. They spent last week visit
ing another son at Cove. They re
turned to their home Saturday.
Mrs. W. O. King's father, Mr,
Tagg, of Gearhart, who has been
visiting at the King home for the
past week, returned to his home
Monday.
Mrs. Leslie Packard and Mr. and
Mrs. Lowell Spagle and son spent
Thursday and Friday in the Valley,
Mr. and Mrs. F. A. Fortier and
Norma of North Powder, and El
don Wilson of La Grande spent the
week end in Boardman. Miss Nor
ma Gibbons will enter the Eastern
Oregon Normal school in La
Grande next week.
Mr. and Mrs. Al Macomber and
family from Fossil spent the week
end here visiting relatives.
Mr. and Mrs. Bechdolt and son
Archie of Hardman were business
visitors in Boardman Saturday and
also attended the fair.
Albert Boardman of Salem is em
ployed with the highway patching
crew which is now working in
Boardman. He will return to Salem
soon where he will attend high
school. Albert is staying at the
Royal Rands home while he is here.
He was a dinner guest at the Ken
nedy home Thursday evening.
Mr. and Mrs. Myers took Wilma
to Hermiston to see the doctor Sun
day.
Miss Ada Wilbanks left Sunday
for Salem where she will attend the
