Frank Turner drove to Walla
Walla, Wash., Sunday to take his
son, Robert, back to Whitman col
lege after his vacation at home.
Miss Virginia Dix and Frank's
ilnuthter, Annabclle, also made the
trip, Miss Dix returning to St. Paul's
school and AnnaDeue stopping ior
a brief visit with friends in Adams.
Mr. and Mrs. FranK Ayers, who
live on the place known as the Mc-
Intire ranch, but now owned by
Miss Violet Corrigall, when in town
on business Saturday reported that
their range was in such good condi
tion that their sheep do not have to
be fed.
Miss Evangeline Phillips, who is
teaching on Rhea creek, was in
Hoppner Saturday visiting Miss Mil
dred Green, betore Miss ureen re
turned to Monmouth, where she will
resume her final year's study at that
institution.
Harley Hall of Portland is brake-
man on the Heppner branch of the
Union Pacflic now, making his resi
dence at the home of his aunt, Mrs.
Shelly Baldwin. His family will re
main in Portland for the present, at
least.
Mrs. Frank E. Riggs and her sis
ter Miss Marjoric Clark left for Eu
gene Sunday, where Marjorie is at
tending the University of Oregon,
following a holiday visit with their
parents, Mr. and Mrs. M. D. Clark.
Stephen Thompson, son of Mr.
and Mrs. R. A. Thompson, left for
Corvallis Sunday, where he is a stu
dent at Oregon State college. He
went as far as Arlington with his
sister Rieta Neel, who drove.
Mrs. Phil Cohn and daughter El
eanor, who is engaged in kindergar
ten work in Portland, returned to
that city Sunday after a visit with
Mr. and Mrs. Henry Cohn and Mr.
and Mrs. Harold Cohn.
Alonzo Edmundson, accompanied
by his mother, Mrs. Mattie Huston,
went to Portland by train Tuesday
evening to have his lower jaw set,
as it did not knit after the first
operation.
Mr. and Mrs. Richard Howell mo
tored to Heppner Friday for a visit
at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Henry
Howell, en route to Oakland, Calif.,
where Mrs. Howell's mother resides.
Miss Elizabeth Galloway, Heppner
high school instructor, returned to
the city Saturday after spending the
Christmas vacation with her par
ents in Weiser, Idaho.
James O'Brien, son of Mr. and
Mrs. T. J. O'Brien, has returned to
school in Salem after spending the
Christmas vacation with his parents
on Butter creek.
Miss Luola Benge has returned to
Medford where she Is teaching, af
ter spending the Christmas holidays
with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. R.
L. Benge
For a few hours early Saturday
morning it looked as though the
Eight Mile section was being trans
ferred to other parts to the east by
the very heavy wind that prevailed.
Mr. and Mrs. Tyndal Robison, who
were in the city later in the day, re
ported just about the worst blow of
dust they had ever witnessed. As
soon as It began raining, however,
the wind died and the weather be
came far more pleasant.
Mr. and Mrs. N. L. Shaw were vis
itors in the city on Saturday from
their home in Clarks Canyon. Mr.
Shaw, who has been indisposed for
some time, is not making progress
toward recovery as rapidly as he
and his family would like, yet he
is able to get to town occasionally.
I)r. A. H. Johnston and Mrs. John
ston report that they had a fine trip
from Heppner to Rochester, Minn.,
where the doctor will spend six
weeks in the surgery clinics of Ma
yo brothers. After completing his
work there he and Mrs. Johnston
plan on going to Chicago.
Miss Gladys Benge, motoring as
far as Arlington with Mr. and Mrs.
Eph Eskelson, began her return to
Mills college, Oakland, Calif., after
a holiday visit with her parents.
Ralph Justus and D. O. Justus ar
riving in town Saturday from their
ranch on Hinton creek, reported
some snow in the mountains and im
provement of the ranges.

Mrs. N. M. Kirk and children were
in town from their home in Clarks
Canyon for a short time on Satur
day, while attending to some shop
ping. Karl L. Beach, busy merchant of
Lexington, was looking after some
urgent business matters in this city
for a short time on Saturday.
W. L. Copenhaver, accompanied
by Mrs. Copenhaver and son Law
rence, was in Heppner Friday to re
ceive medical attendtion for rheu
matism. Mr. and Mrs. Dee Cox, who are
farming on Hinton creek, came to
Heppner for a visit Saturday.
