BOARDMAN
The Home Economics club met
with Mrs. Lee Mead on Wednesday.
A' large attendance was had and
after the usual sumptuous meal a
business meeting was held It was
decided to have a supper on the
evening of November 16 when about
30 candidates will be Initiated Into
the grange. This will be a pot luck
supper and will be held at 6:30 In
the schoolhouse. After the business
meeting the group who are to pre
sent the tableaux at the state
grange Saturday, practiced. The
next meeting will be at the Duggan
home with Mrs. Faler and Mrs.
Duggan, hostesses.
Mrs. Beecher Lewis experienced
the thrill that comes once in a life
time when, on Wednesday morning,
she was driving to The Dalles in
their fine new Hupmoblle. She fell
asleep at the wheel near Heppner
Junction and the car left the roaa,
falling a distance of approximately
60 feet, turning over three times De
fore landing on its side at the foot
near the railroad track. Mrs. Lew
is crawled out unhurt, climbed the
embankment and hailed a passing
stage and came home. It was merely
another of those strange miracles
that continue to occur that she was
not killed or seriously hurt The
car was damaged to some extent
but the glass was not even broken.
Mrs. A. A. Agee has been ill for
some time.
Mr. and Mrs. R. C. Mitchell plan
to leave next week for Portland for
a visit going down to be with Mrs.
Mitchell's mother who will be 86
years of age November 7.
Mrs. Guy Barlow and her com
mittee will entertain at the next
Silver Tea on November 6 at the
home of Mrs. D. W. Miller. Every,
one invited.
L. G.. Smith sold his band of
sheep to Crofton Bros, of Washing
ton. Kristensen & King sold their
lambs recently to Shane Bros, of
Arlington.
W. A Price and son Billy, Mrs.
Lottie Attebury and Harry Murchie
motored to The Dalles Sunday to
see Mrs. Price who is in the Mid-
Columbia hospital there. She Is not
at all well and Mr. Price was called
back again in the night as she was
much worse.
The sum of $21.50 was cleared
Friday night at the movie, "Dress
Parade." given by the P T. A. This
included $2.21 from the sale of can-
dv made bv Miss Spike and the
girls. This brings the sum up to
near $100 to be made as the first
payment on the school Vlctrola soon
to be bought
Guy Barlow has purchased a new
model Ford sedan.
Rood Eckleberry and Harold
Townsend of lone drove over Sun
day and spent the day at the John
Graves home.
Marvin Ransier, Geo. Wickland-
er and Geo. Graves left Sunday for
Portland to attend the Pacific In
ternational Livestock exposition as
the stock judging team from Mor
row county. These boys had their
first training in judging at the pro
ject fair at Hermiston and later at
the Eastern Oregon hospital in fen-
dleton.
Mrs. A. B. Chaffee had a painful
arm last week caused from pricking
her finger with a needle.
Friends of Fred C. Houghton were
sorry to hear of his injury Sunday
when he was Bhot through the hand
as he was taking his gun from the
car while hunting. Stray shot
struck him In the face also but the
hand Injury waa more serious. The
doctor thought that he could save
the hand. Mr. Houghton is the
project manager and lives near the
division dam at Umatilla.
H. C. Ellis has purchased a Ford
sedan.
Mrs. Lee Mead and daughters
Helen and Catherine went to La
Grande Friday afternoon and visit
ed with her sister and husand. On
Saturday Mrs. Mead attended the
meeting of state grange.
Mr. and Mrs. John Graves attend
ed the charivari of her brother and
his bride last Friday night in the
mountains 25 miles above Heppner,
going over with Walter Rowell.
Mrs. Mike Rowell of lone has rent
ed the Delano ranch and is moving
here with her family.
Nicholas Muller was hurt last
week, a big gash being cut in his
leg from contact with barbed wire.
Nels Isaacson of Spokane spent
several days at the O. B. Olson
home last week. Mr. Isaacson was
an old neighbor of the Olson's when
they lived in Red Deer, Canada.
Francine King was hostess at a
charming autumn party on Satur
day afternoon to a group of friends.
After various outdoor games each
guest found a sack hanging on the
trees and each contained a dainty
luncheon. Marshmallows were toast
ed at a bonfire. Autumn leaves with
a toy balloon folded at the base of
the leaf like a bud made clever lit
tle favors. Guests were Wanda
Shane. Hazel and Lucile Tyler, Lil
lian Hango, Norine Olson, Bertie
Richardson. Maxine Machan, Iran
cine and Ruth King, Kenneth Ran
sier, Reuben and Lawrense Wether
ell, A. T. Hereim.
Mr. and Mrs. Lyle Blayden have
returned to Spokane after visiting
his parents.

Arnold have purchased the north
40 of the Harry Crawford place.
Mr. and Mrs. Arnold will live on
the place and run a dairy herd.
Howard Bates ana wile will move
to the John Brice place which has
been fixed up and the barn made
ready for their dairy herd.
Mrs L. V. Root is still unable to
be at her place in the post office.
She has been ill the past two weeks.
Rev. G. H. Wilbur of Hood River
will preach here Sunday evening,
November 3.
The ranch belonging to Dr. Don
nelly west of Boardman two miles
was sold to Mr. Stout of Fossil.
This is one of the best ranches on
the project
Mr. and Mrs. Bullrock of Port
land came Friday for a few days
visit On Sunday they motored to
Umatilla to visit
Mr. and Mrs. J. T. Healey of Port
land were guests at the Hereim
home several days last week.
The local grange members who
attended the meeting of the state
grange at La Grande report having
a splendid time. Twenty-four Board-
manites attended and were royally
entertained. A banquet was given
the visiting delegates on Saturday
evening. Many of the local people
visited with former Boardman
folks and had a fine time. Mrs. Ty
ler, Mrs. Myers, Mr. and Mrs. Geo.
Wicklander and Mr. and Mrs. Chas.
Wicklander were overnight guests
at the Chas. Nizer home. Nizers
are building a new home to replace
the one burned some time ago.
Mr. and Mrs. Nick Faler, Mr. and
Mrs. I. Skoubo, John Brice and son
Warren and Claude Myers were
overnight guests at the Knauff
home. On Sunday the group mo
tored to Hot Lake, Union, Cove and
other points. On Sunday afternoon
a marvelous dinner was served by
Mr. and Mrs. KnaufT with 25 pre
sent Seated at the table with them
were Messrs. and Mesdames I. Skou
bo, Nick Faler, Ray Brown, Glen
Hadley, Royal Rands and Donna
Jane, Miss Catherine Brown, Glad
ys Wilson Mrs. Brice Dlllabough,
Mrs. Dan Ransier, Andy Andregg
of Hermiston, Alfred Skoubo, John
Brice and son Warren.
Other Boardman people attending
were Mrs. D. W. Miller, Mrs. Lee
Mead and Geo. Mitchell.
The Boardman staff put on some
beautiful tableaux at the meeting.
Mr. Chandler and wife (nee Mil
dred Duncan) were visitors on the
project Monday at the Willbanks
and Mclntyre homes.
Miss Erma Broyles has been quite
ill in Portland and her mother and
Grace went down and spent several
days with her. Erma will come
home soon for a vacation.
Paul and Frank Partlow have a
contract to haul logs on the John
Day.
A huller was brought down from
Irrigon and the alfalfa seed on the
Fred Edmunds place was hulled. M
K. Flickinger has several acres of
seed.
