vallls were visitors over the week
end at the home of Mr. and Mrs.
Milton W. Bower in this city. They
came over the McKenzie pass and
through the interior to Heppner, re
turning home on Monday by way of
the Columbia highway. Mr. and
Mrs. Bower are the parents of the
Heppner pastor.
Mr. and Mrs. E. G. Noble and
Mrs. Noble's sister, Mrs. Goodnight
of Vancouver, Wash., returned the
end of the week from a very pleas
ant automobile trip through por
tions of Washington and Idaho.
They traveled over the north and
south highway in Idaho and report
it one of the finest scenic roads they
have traveled in the northwest
The Misses Edna and LaVelle
Florence, daughters of Price Flor
ence, arrived from Portland on Fri
day for a visit of a few days with
their father and other relatives in
this city. The Misses Florence make
their home with Dr. and Mrs. Eu
gene Vaughan in Portland, Mrs.
Vaughan being their aunt
J. E. Radforn and family of Port
Orford, Oregon, are visitors at the
home of Mr. and Mrs. Art Gemmell
just south of town, where Mr. Rad
forn will work during harvest Mrs.
Radforn Is a sister of Mrs. Gemmell.
Mr. and Mrs. Vawter Crawford of
Heppner, Ore., spent July 4th and
Friday in this city as guests of Mr.
and Mi s. O. M. Conover and Mr. and
Mrs. H. D. Conover. Vawter, whom
we still like to claim as a Waits

Peter Tlmm, Jr., lone wheatrais-
er, was a visitor at Heppner for a
short while on Tuesday. He is now
in the midst of his combining, and
reports that some of his grain is
making a good yield far better, in
fact than ha had pxnprtoH nwinor
to the weeds. Harvest is beginning
in earnest inrougnout tne lone sec
tion. Maurice Smead drove up from
Portland on Sunday, bringing his
mother, Mrs. W. W. Smead, who
was a visitor in the city for several
days, and who also visited with her
daughter and husband, Mr. and
Mrs. Chas. Curtis at Marshfleld
while away. They were accompan
ied by Dr. McMurdo.
Mr. and Mrs. E. R. Hustan arriv
ed home on Friday from a visit of
a week with relatives at Portland
and Albany. They also enjoyed a
trip out to the coast, a delightful
experience.

were Eight Mile farmers in the
city on Tuesday, getting ready for
the harvest These men are now
starting their machines and report
many others, getting under way.
Some yields are reported around 25
bushels, and fields In that part of
tho county are expected to go even
better.
Harlan McCurdy of lone was In
Heppner on Monday, having Just
returned from Granite where he is
summering the Davidson and Mc
Curdy sheep. He had been spend
ing some three weeks in the moun
tain section where the weather con
ditions are Ideal, and finds it pretty
warm down this way.
A. C. Crowell, who was called to
his old home at Lansing, Mich., be
cause of the Illness of his father,
returned home the end of the week.
He reached the bedside of his fath
er, whom he had not seen for some
20 years, just before he passed
away. He also visited at Cadillac,
Mich.
S. E. Notson, district attorney for
Morrow county, was a visitor in
Condon Thursday. He drove over
by way of the Burton and Wilson
grade and was accompanied by Tin
dall Roblson, who visited here with
his mother, Mrs. Andrew Neel.

Frank Young, who was in town
Tuesday from his Gooseberry farm,
stated that he had started his com
bine and that the wheat harvest
would proceed rapidly from this
date on. He has a large acreage of
grain to thresh.

Mrs. Alice Adkins arrived home
on last Thursday after an absence
of some six weeks spent at Cen
tralia, Wash., with the family of her
son, Harley Adkins. On the way
home she also visited with another
son, Ralph Adkins and his family
at Vancouver, Wash.
Mr. and Mrs. Dan Rice arrived on
Monday evening's stage from Port
land, and will spend a short time
at Heppner. They have been mak
ing their home during the past fall
and winter at San Francisco, and
Mr. Rice has greatly improved in
health.
Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Booher of
Condon and Mr. and Mrs. Tom Bey
mer and daughters Audrey, Luclle,
Wilma and Florence, all from Hepp
ner, celebrated the Fourth at Ukiah.
Mrs. Beymer is a cousin to Mr.

J. W. Stevens and family, who
have been on a ranch near Court
Rock, Grant county during 'the past
year, have moved back to Hardman
where they will make their home in
the future. They brought over their
effects the end of the week.
H. R. Smith, Rock creek ranch
man, was looking after business
here on Tuesday. He has been busy
of late getting up his hay, which
crop is now about all gathered in.

and Mrs. Fred Elder of Wapato,
Wash., is spending a week In this
city at the home of her grandmoth
er, Mrs. Mattie Adkins.

ing after business here on Monday.
