BOARDMAN
Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Price were
pleased to have their daughter, Mrs.
Harold Say, come up Tuesday from
Portland for a few days visit Her
two daughters, Shirley and Mary
Nadelle, have been up here with
their grandparents for several
weeks.
The Home Economics club met
with Mrs. Dan Ransier on Wednes
day. About 20 were present and
enjoyed a sumptuous luncheon. Mrs.
Houghton of Umatilla and Mrs.
Harold Say of Portland were out of
town guests. Other invited guests
were Mesdamea Blayden, Gorham,
Hereim, Tyler, King and Mefford.
Alvin Kelly, a former Boardman
resident, was a visitor on the pro
ject last week. He is living at Boul
der Creek, Cal., since leaving here.
L. C. Cooney and family were din
ner guests Sunday at the Emmet
Cooney home near Umatilla.
C. Astor Smith and Josephine
Meidl of La Center, Wash., were
visitors at the home of the former's
sister, Mrs. Everett Duggan. They
took the Smith-Duggan baler back
with them. Wayne and Kenneth
Duggan accompanied them to La
Center and will remain for an In
definite stay.
Mr. and Mrs. Ed McClelland and
baby came up Thursday night. The
former returned to Portland the
following day but Mrs. McClelland
and baby remained for a visit at
the Ed Kunze home.
Nate Macomber went to Pilot
Rock Saturday night Mary Chaf
fee went along and visited with Syb
il Grace, staying over until Monday
to attend the circus.
J. C. Ballenger was home Satur
day for a short time. He has pur
chased a house in The Dalles and
he took Harry Murchie back with
him to do some remodeling on the
house there.
Boardman friends of Arthur
Schaefer were sorry to learn of his
recent entanglement with the law
and his departure from the paths
of propriety. Arthur spent several
years here working at various
places and spent much of this time
at the I. Skoubo and Nick Faler
homes, and in all the time was nev
er known to be dishonest He was
shot last week at Hermiston while
attempting to rob a store. It is
thought he must have fallen among
the wrong companions.
Mr. and Mrs. J. F. Gorham and
two daughters motored to Pendle
ton Sunday and were guests at the
home of friend3. They remained
overnight and attended the circus
on Monday.
Mrs. Doyle Hubbel and baby are
at the home of her parents, Mr. and
Mrs. A. A. Agee while Mr. Hubbel
is working in the harvest
Miss Nellie Dillon came home this
week from a pleasant two weeks
vacation trip to Portland.
Mrs. Pete Slevin was grieved to
receive word Sunday of the death
of her brother, Wm. Dolan, at their
old home in Ireland.
Mrs. M. J. Doney of Freewater
was a visitor here Sunday. She is a
sister of Mrs. Robert Wilson.
Guy Collins of Portland was a
recent visitor at the Nick Faler
home.
Mr. and Mrs. J. R. Johnson and
Deibert made a flying trip to Wasco
Sunday, returning the same eve
ning. Mrs. Pat Pattee and two children
came Saturday for a visit with her
parents, Mr. and Mrs. O. B. Olson.
Pattees are now living at Fossil and
Mr. Pattee went to Salem with a
highway truck, so Mrs. Pattee took
the opportunity to visit home folks.
She came up from Arlington with
Mrs. Bailey and sons Oren and Ar
thur and Miss Beth Bleakman who
came up to see Mrs. Richard Ding
mon. Mr. and Mrs. Ed Tobln and two
daughters visited Friday at the
Nick Faler home. They were on
their way to Spokane from their
hmoe in Paso Robles, Calif.
Eldon Wilson has gone to the
Gorger ranch to work during har
vest Russell Mefford is working at
the Kenny ranch near Heppner dur
ing harvest
Mrs. Ray Brown has gone to the
Ed Reitmann ranch to cook during
harvest

Vernon Root was 16 years old
July 13, and on Sunday a fine birth
day dinner was enjoyed at the home
of his grandparents Mr. and Mrs.
W. H. Mefford. His aunts, Mrs. Al
bert Macomber of Condon, Mrs. Ed
Barlow and Evelyn all helped cele
brate the occasion. Evelyn has been
at Condon wtih her sister since the
close of school.
Mrs. Claude Coats and daughter
Echo are home from a pleasant visit
in Portland.
Mr. and Mrs. Otho Stahl and fam
ily were week-end visitors at the
Dan Ransier home.
"Snooky" little Dan Jr., son of
Mr. and Mrs. Dan Ransier has been
having difficulty with his breathing.
A trip to the doctor on Monday
showed the trouble to be hay fever
and a touch of asthma. A change
of climate was advised.
ALPINE
Mrs. John Nirschel of Pendleton
and her sister, Miss Ruth Bennett
of Alpine, left Wednesday for Port
land where they will visit with rel
atives. They will also visit with
relatives at Forest Grove.
Mr. and Mrs. Irl Clary and fam
ily were Thursday evening guests
of Mr. and Mrs. Mike Sepanek.
Wheat harvesting is in full swing
out at Alpine. G. L. Bennett start
ed on Thursday and is putting
away a 25-bushel per acre crop.
Shaw brothers who are harvesting
their crop on the J. P. Conder ranch
are reaping a 20 bushel crop. Doh
erty brothers are averaging 25
bushels, Melville brothers, 15 bush
els, while Dan Lindsey, Mike Se
panek and Crockett Duvall are
working together on their respec
tive ranches and harvesting a good
crop.
Willard Hawley was a Sunday
guest of Mr. and Mrs. Irl Clary.
G. L. Bennett accompanied by
Mrs. George Lambirth were Echo
visitors Saturday.
The Misses Bernice and Bertha
Sepanek were Heppner visitors on
Saturday.
Geo. Lambirth and daughter Ce
latha went to Lexington on Monday
and brought home a combine which
he had purchased from Otto Ruhl.
Juanita Nirschel of Pendleton is
spending the summer vacation with
her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. G.
L. Bennett
On Thursday the Misses Bernice
and Bertha Sepanek celebrated
their nineteenth birthday. Those
present were the Misses Celatha
Lambirth, Margaret Melville, Ger
trude Tichenor and Mrs. C. Melville.
The Sunday evening guests of
Mr. and Mrs. J. C. Thompson were
Mr. and Mrs. Irl Clary and children
and Willard Hawley.
Chas. Melville accompanied by his
niece, Miss Gertrude Tichenor, was
an Echo visitor Friday afternoon.
Norman Gideon and Gilbert
White of Long Beach, Cal., are em
ployed at West Camp ranch.
A large number of our young
people attended the dance at lone
on Saturday evening.
Mr. and Mrs. George Lambirth
had as guests at their home on
Saturday, the former's brothers,
John Lambirth of Pendleton, Chas.
Lambirth of Echo, and their broth
er Lafe Lambirth of Home, Idaho,
whom they had not seen in 14 years.

George and his family who also had

Willard Hawley had the misfor
tune of losing his Chrysler sedan
which was destroyed by Are on
Monday. Mr. Hawley thinks a short
circuit in one of the battery wires
caused the fire. The car was com
pletely demolished.
Shaw brothers and families were
Monday evening guests of Mr. and
Mrs. C. Melville.
Zill Smlthers is combining the
barley crop on West Camp ranch.
