Henry Howard was celebrating
his 86th birthday on Tuesday. Mr,
Howard has been laid up and kept
at home during the winter by rheu
matism, but was able to be up town
Tuesday, reeling quite a bit better.
He reported Mrs. Howard as feeling
fine. She is 10V4 years older than
her husband Heppner's oldest res
ident in point of years, and among
tne very oldest or our pioneers, and
in her 97th year she enjoys perfect
nealth.
W. A. Anderson, brother of the
late Geo. D. Anderson, has been ap
pointed administrator of the estate,
which consists principally of real
property situated In Umatilla coun
ty. Mr. Anderson and wife were
here for several days following the
death of his brother, and they have
returned to their home at Ukiah.
They were brought over to Heppner
by Unas. Hynd.
Sam McCullough has disposed of
his place on Balm Fork to Carl
Ulrlch of Heppner. In the deal Mr.
McCullough has taken over the
town property of Mr. Ulrlch. The
ranch consists of some 600 acres
of good grass land, with a small
acreage under cultivation. Mr. Mc
Cullough is planning to move to
town, and Mr. Ulrlch has moved to
the ranch.
Mrs. Jas. Jones, niece of Jeff
Jones, was a guest for several days
during the past week at the home
of Mr. and Mrs. Jones in this city
She departed for her home at Hunt
ington on Sunday morning, being
accompanied as far as Pendleton by
Mr. Jones and wife.
The Women's Relief Corps will
nave a luncheon for all the mem
bers at Legion hall on Wednesday,
May 22, at 1 o'clock sharp. The
regular business meeting will follow
at 1:30. All members are urged to
come as there will be initiation.
President
Gus Llebl, extensive wheatgrowcr
of Morrow and Gilliam counties,
was looking after business here on
Saturday. He states that crop con
ditions are good in that part of the
mortal vineyard, and a good yield
is looked forward to at harvest
time.
E. S. Duran, Blackhorse farmer,
was attending to business In this
city on Saturday. Like all our far
mers, Mr. Duran is rejoicing over
the good rains of the past week, the
warmer spring weather and the fine
growing conditions.
Mr. and Mrs. A. H. Gragg of Sa
lem were week-end guests at the
home of Mrs. Gregg's mother, Mrs.
Llllie Aiken. They returned home
on Sunday afternoon, following a
very pleasant visit with Heppner
relatives.

Carl F. Bergstrom is well pleased
with the outlook for crops In the
Gooseberry section, and says the
weather conditions are ideal.
Worms bothered some early in the
season, and In some fields tar weed
is plentiful. The warm weather has
done away with the worms, and the
wheat Is fast getting ahead of the
weeds. Mr. Bergstrom was looking
after business here on Wednesday.
N. A. Clark of Eight Mile spent
a lew nours in town Tuesday. The
warmer weather and sunshine is
working to the advantage of the
farmers of that part of Morrow
county. The worms had been pretty
busy durintr the colder ni-rM nnri
with the advent of more sunshine
and warmer weather, their work
nas ceaseu.
Carl F. Troedson of lone was a
visitor in HeDDner for a short time
on Monday. He renorted that flno
rain visited that part of the county
auring aunuay night, being quite
general over an me wneat belt.
Mr. and Mrs. Grant Olden of
Rhea creek, were visitors here on
Tuesday afternoon. They were
making some arrangements for the
picnic to be given at their place
on Sunday next.
