Not One Child Should Miss This
The Manhattan Marionettes
JVC
S3?
Df Helena Rubinstein UT
By Arthur Brisbane
A Brave Man Dead.
Inherited Generosity.
Human Sacrifices.
Useful Warnings.
Those that pity themselves be
cause their health is "not quite
what It ought to be" may consider
Baron von Huenefeld, who died on
the operating table, undergoing his
thirteenth operation for an Incur
able disease of the stomach that
had afflicted him for years.
Suffering hopelessly, knowing
that he could not live long and must
endure many operations, von Huen
efeld planned and carried out the
German-Irish flight across the At
lantic ocean. Such courage and will
power should make others ashamed
to complain.
J. Pierpont Morgan gives New
York Hospital two buildings worth
$2,000,000. Giving seems to be in
herited, as illustrated also in the
case of the Rockefellers.
Mr. Morgan's father gave to New
York one of its finest Institutions, a
great lying-in hospital.
Serious rioting In India Is caused
by a report that Mohammedans kid
napped Hindu children and sacri
ficed them in connection with the
construction of a new bridge. The
report probably is not true.
Once Important works were usu
ally accompanied by human sacri
fices. Somebody was killed and
burled under the corner of a new
building. A child or adult was often
killed and burled in a shallow hole
in a field newly planted. Knowing
nothing about fertilizers they ob
served with "religious awe" that the
grass grew greener where the
corpse was burled.
Madame Bella Pollack died In
Rumania, aged 118, leaving twenty
one children, the oldest eighty-five,
and a fiance who would have been
her third husband. Madame Pollack
ate two and one-half pounds of
black bread and a pound of sugar
every day, and was never ill until
her last illness.
Men often live long when the doc
tor tells them that they will soon
die. A warning makes them care
ful. James Melrose, twice Lord
Mayor of York, England, is dead,
aged one hundred. Insurance com
pany refused him as a bad risk sev
enty years ago.
The famous Lulgi Cornaro be
came interested in his health when
doctors told him at forty that he
must soon die. He ate only twelve
ounces of solid food, drank fifteen
ounces of red wine daily, died at
one hundred and four.
Lindbergh, on his way from Mi
ami to Panama, "hopped off" on his
twenty-seventh birthday.
Only twenty-seven, and his name
is known wherever men are civil
ized. Only twenty-seven, and already
he has conquered the ocean, and,
what Is more Important, the respect
of every man and woman.
This young American's history
makes millions of others feel as
Caesar did when he read the life of
Alexander the Great and suddenly
burst into tears, realizing that Al
exander had conquered the world
when he was younger than Caesar
was then.
"Herbert Hoover may find Impor
tant aviation work for Lindbergh."
Nothing more probable. An engi
neer knows that somebody who
knows how to do what you want
done Is valuable.
Mr. Hoover understands the engi
neering part of flying and all its im
portance, from mall carrying to na
tional defense.
Colonel Lindbergh understands
the flying part. A fine combination.
Many hats would go up In the air If
young Lindbergh were put by Mr.
Hoover at the head of a separate de
partment for national air defense.
GREEK HIDES STOLEN.
Thieves entered the slaughter
house of Henry Schwarz & Son on
Friday night und took therefrom a
number of green hides, the loss
amounting to between $75 and $100.
They were smnrt enough not to
carry off any of the marked or
branded hides, so It has been diffi
cult so far to get any clue as to the
perpetrators. The shop In town was
also entered through the back door,
the cash register broken into and
some $9.00 In change carried off.

The Modem Mode in Mouths
Her lips are like two budded roees
Whom ranks of lilies neighbor nigh.
Thomas Lodge.
When your mouth begins to lose
Its mobility you are showing an in
evitable sign of age. To retain the
youth and beauty of your face I beg
you then look to the mobility of
the mouth. The Hps themselves will
not grow old If they are kept soft
and pliable through constant lubri
cation. Either white or pink Hp pomade
will keep the flesh soft and even,
and prevent chapping, as well. The
ageing of the mouth, however,
shows in line rather than In texture.
A loss of elasticity In the muscles
of the face Is likely to develop pock
ets at the corners of the mouth.
There Is no mistaking this unbeau
tiful sign of the years, but, like
everything else, it is far easier to
prevent than to correct.
If no more than the tendency is
established, to massage the mouth
from the center of the chin upword,
using gentle rotary movements with
the cushion of the thumb to which
a rich nourishing cream is applied,
will help to correct this condition
and prevent It. The parentheses
around your mouth and most wo
men over twenty-five show them
must be counteracted through the
same methods. The dimple that Is
bewitching at twenty is far too of
ten a line or a hollow at forty.
For the expression lines, the char
acter lines which etch themselves
around the corners of the mouth, a
balsam astringent is an excellent
precaution. The muscles will not
sag if they are encouraged to firm
ness by either the lactee or a mild
astringent jelly this last provided
the relaxation is not too noticeable.
Last of all we come to making up
the mouth. I know of possibly a
half dozen women in my whole ex
perience who could not be improv
ed by a little clever touching up of
the lips.
Many women, especially the ma
ture type, feel that lip make-up Is
too artificial and too extreme to
become them. I grant you that
some makeup is dreadful; but I
also contend that It is just as dread
ful for sixteen as it would be for
sixty. Your mouth should be most
carefully rouged. Should you be
the woman in the thousand who
can "get away with it," very highly
colored lips may be Interesting. If
this be your type (and you cannot
afford to guess about it; you must
know), your cheeks should be pale
and vivid lips the one bright spot
of contrasting color In your face.
The average make-up requires
both lipstick and rouge, but these
should be sparingly and discreetly
applied.
