Dean, the infant son of Mr. and
Mrs. W. T. Brookhouser, aged three
months, died at the home of his
parents in this city on Monday,
January 8, after an illness of two
days, from acute pneumonia fol
lowing influenza. Burial took place
on Tuesday afternoon at Heppner
cemetery, with short services at
the grave conducted by Milton W.
Bower, pastor of the Christian
church. In this sad bereavement,
the family have the sincere sym
pathy of the entire community.
Geo. Dykstra came down from the
ranch the first of the week. He
has been laid up there for a while,
undergoing some bodily repairs,
following an accident in which he
was tramped on by a horse. One
leg was pretty badly cut by the
calks on the horse's shoe, and se
vere bruises on other parts of the
body. He is quite well recovered
now and able to be about town.
The regular meeting of Heppner
Unit, American Legion Auxiliary,
will be held at Legion hall on Tues
day evening, January 15. Hostesses
for the evening will be Mesdames
D. A. Wilson and R. B. Ferguson,
and a full attendance of the mem
bers is requested.
Heppner hotel installed a new
heating plant this week, in line with
the renovating policy of Mr. Rank
in, manager. Rooms are being
cleaned and reflnished, and in a
short time it is expected the lobby
will be removed to the main street
entrance.

He has been suffering much of late
with his back, caused by injuries
received while he was in the navy
during the war.
Chas. W. Smith, county agent,
departed this morning for Enter
prise on business before attending
the Oregon Woolgrowers associa
tion meeting at Baker the end of
the "week.
Frank P. Farnsworth's voice has
been silent on the streets for the
past week at the usual hour of the
morning when distributing the
daily papers. He was laid up with
the flu.
Dillard French, stockman of Gur-
dane, was in town Tuesday to at
tend the meeting of stockholders of
Farmers and Stockgrowers Nation
al bank, of which he is vice president

Tuesday, January 8, 1929, to Mr. and
Mrs. R. E. Allstott, Jr., of Eight
Mile, a 10-pound son. Both mother
and child are reported to be doing
well.

ing. Jack Hynd, senior, who re
cently suffered injuries In an auto
mobile accident is reported to be
improving rapidly.

Martin Lovgren, Eight Mile far
mer, was a Heppner visitor Wed
nesday. In starting boys' and girls' club
work for the year, Chas. W. Smith,
is presenting a series of moving pic
ture shows at various points in the
county. Sunday evening Mr. Smith
showed his pictures, sent out by
the state college, at Gooseberry
after which he made a short talk
on club work. In spite of the cold,
foggy evening, the meeting was well
attended. Mrs. Algott Lundell, who
made an exceptional record last
year, will lead club work there
again this year.
