Two Httle fjrh are shown salvaging their Iw. Mml (0 Albert Crosby of Woodburn spent a portion of the past week visiting with his brother Walter on Willow creek. Some thirty odd years ago Albert was a resident of this sec tion and this is his first visit here since going to the Willamette valley. He was unable to recognize any fa miliar landmarks hereabouts, the town having changed entirely, and even the old haunts up the creek were not recognizable until after he passed the forks of the creek. Time had worked many changes both In the community and its res idents and he missed many of the old timers. A trip over the lower Eight Mile section Sunday afternoon revealed to the editor of this paper that the farmers out that way are very busy with their seeding these days. Many fields were already turning green and with the showers of thiB week the grain will all be up nicely. By the end of another week seeding should be done out that way. Weath er conditions have been Ideal for the fall work. W. B. Barratt and daughter, Miss Willetta arrived at Heppner on Fri day from their home at Portland. They remained over for a day to take In the Rodeo and then went on the Rosalia, Wash., for a visit with Mr. and Mrs. Irvin Reiman, where Mr. Barratt goes to see his first granddaughter, a recent arrival at the Reiman home. Mrs. Reiman waa formerly Miss Helen Barratt of this city. Mr. and Mrs. P. M. Gemmell de parted on Sunday for Portland where Mrs. Gemmell took the Am erican Legion special train for San Antonio, Texas. Mrs. Gemmell goes as a delegate to the national con vention of the American Legion Auxiliary from Oregon. She will also enjoy a visit with relatives re siding in the Texas city. Henry J. Taylor of Pendleton was a visitor in Heppner on Friday, coming over to take in the Rodeo, and also to spread a little Al Smith propaganda, as he is the Umatilla county chairman of the democratic party. Mr. Taylor has numerous friends in this city who are always glad to extend him greetings. Mr. and Mrs. Jeff Jones returned home on Saturday from Salem, where during the past week they attended the State Fair. The fair was found to be very Interesting, but Mr. and Mrs. Jones could not brag much on the quality of the weather during the week. Mr. and Mrs. D. M. Ward, Rhea creek farmers, were visitors at Heppner over Saturday and a part of Sunday. Mr. Ward reports that he Is getting along with his fall seeding quite rapidly now and the grain Is beginning to show up well. George N. Peck was a visitor here on Monday. Scott, democratic nom inee for joint representative for Morrow and Umatilla counties, ac companied by Mrs. Scott, was a vis itor here on Saturday. Mr. Scott took advantage of the opportunity offered to interview the voters of Morrow oounty in behalf of his candidacy, the large crowd in the city to attend the last day of the Rodeo making it easy to see peo ple from all parts of the west Bide of Mr. Scott's district Clyde Saling, who has been spend ing the most of the summer at the home of his brother-in-law, C. H. Bartholomew at Pine City, spent Friday and Saturday in Heppner, renewing old acquaintances. Mr. Saling's home is at Corvallls where he and his family have been living for a few years past while the boys are going through school. ' Mr. and Mrs. M. L. Curran mo tored to The Dalles on Sunday, tak ing their daughter, Mrs. Jared Aiken that far on her journey to Portland. Mrs. Aiken was return ing home after spending several weeks at the home of her parents in this city. Miss Nora Hughes ac companied Mr. and Mrs. Curran on the trip. According to word given this pa per by Clerk Anderson, registra tion has been proceeding well and many eleglble voters now have their names on the lists who have been neglecting this important duty in years past. Mat Halvorsen of lone was a bus iness visitor in this city on Tues day. He just recently disposed of some 700 acres of his wheat lands in the Halvorsen Butte district to Earl Blake, who In turn had dis posed of his holdings to J. O. Kin caid. The G. T. family extends its thanks to Mr. and Mrs. Richard Peterson for a supply of very ex cellent sweet corn out of their gar den. Mrs. Peterson states that their garden was extra good this year. Among those from Pendleton Sat urday taking in the Rodeo were the Misses Geroldine Tanson and Ella Pedro and John Kilkenny, prominent young attornrey of the Umatilla county metropolis. Mrs. Earl Eskelson and Mrs. Chas. Burchell were Lexington la dies in the ctly for a short time on Wednesday afternoon. Mr. and Mrs. Jas. Davis, residents of Lexington, were visitors in this citv on Tuesday for a few hours. C. A. Minor returned home the first of the week from Portland. He and Mrs. Minor went to the city last week and Mrs. Minor underwent a nose and throat operation by a spec ialist, and 1b reported to be recov ering nicely, expecting to be able to return home in a few days. Mr. and Mrs. Walter Lyons and baby daughters arrived from their Portland home on Thursday last for a visit with the parents of Mrs. Lyons, Mr. and Mrs. J. D. Bauman. Mr. Lyons works for the Francis Motor Co., Portland, distributors of Lincoln cars. Mrs. Geo. B. Goss and daughter of Modesto, Calif., were guests over the Rodeo at the home of her par ents, Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Brook houser, and visited also with her grandmother, Mrs. Jennie Booher. Mrs. M. Belle Thompson was here from her Portland home during the rodeo and a guest at the home of her son, Ralph Thompson and fam ily on Willow creek. She departed for home on Tuesday. E. A. Bennett of the Peoples Hardware company departed for the mountains the first of the week on a two-weeks hunting trip, ac companying the Matteson boys and party of friends. Mr. and Mrs. Henry Collins, Mr. and Mrs. Roy Raley and Mr. and Mrs. Richard Rice were prominent Pendleton people in the city on Fri day, attending the Rodeo. Mrs. Harold Cohn of this city is enjoying a visit from her sister, Mrs. Egan O'Shea and her son Dick of Wallace, Idaho. Mrs. O'Shea will visit here for some time.
