To Speed Registration
At Oregon University
University of Oregon, Eugene,
September 10. Perfection of plans
which, It is believed, will eliminate
the serious congestion which In the
past has marked the registration of
university students in the adminis
tration building, was announced
here today by Earl M. Pallett, regis
trar of the university. McArthur
Court, spacious basketball pavilion,
will be headquarters for the entire
registration machinery during reg
istration days, September 27, 23 and
29.
The registrar's office In almost Its
entirety will be moved into McAr
thur Court, and the business office
will install a cashier's office there.
The deans of men and women will
establish offices In the pavilion, in
order that the students may com
plete post-registration routine im
mediately. According to plans, registration
material will be released to all stu
dents, freshmen, upper classmen,
and graduate students, at the regis
trar's office. From there the stu
dents will go to the offices of their
advisors and arrange programs, and
then will call at McArthur court for
registration. General and non-resident
fees will be collected at that
time, rather than waiting until la
ter in the term, the registrar an
nounced. Included in the registration ma
terial to be given out this year will
be a "student record book" which
will give a complete analysis of the
student's work to date and will in
dicate what he must to do graduate.
This book, Pallett said, is something
like a bank book, and as the stu
dent progresses in his college work
entries to that effect will be made.
Credentials and requests for ap
plication blanks and information by
the hundreds are pouring into the
registrar's office as the opening of

THE BENEFITS OF HIGHWAYS.
Highways are an investment that
pays real dividends and shows prof
its, according to Frank Page, chair
man of the North Carolina High
way commission. In a recent speech
he showed what benefits have come
to that state from its fine roads.
As the first item, Mr. Page listed
relief 'to towns and counties and
savings to road users, through re
ducing wear and tear and losses.
Second, educational opportunities.
Third, the rapid, cheap and safe
transportation of agricultural pro
ducts.
Fourth, factories avoid congested
centers and labor needs no tene
ments in town.
Fifth, Increased accessibility of
resorts and places of scenic interest.
Sixth, the appeal good highways
make to potential residents.
Seventh, social advantages, by
doing away with isolation.
These are highway "dividends
that are paid in every state and ev
ery locality. A community that
neglects building good and adequate
roads Is condemning Itself to me
diocrity and retrogression.

You ought never to have a puncture with it because of
