The sale went very well on a lot of articles, and others brought very small amounts. Mr. Hemrich ship ped out a car load of work horses Tuesday night, their destination be ing McMinnville, where he has pros pects of disposing of them at good prices. With his car outfitted with trailer and other conveniences for travel, Charley and his family de parted on Wednesday forenoon, go ing first to McMinnville they will visit other points in the Willamette valley and Southern Oregon, and then travel through California and Arizona, visiting with friends on the way, as they journey to their destination, which is the former home of Mr. and Mrs. Hemrich at Newton, 111. They expect to remain in the east for the winter and dur ing this time will decide as to their future location. Snow fell in the mountain district of Morrow county on Tuesday night Reports brought to this office stat ed that In the Ditch creek section some five inches fell, and Harry French reported from his place south of Hardman that there was an inch and a half of the beautiful over the ground there the most he had ever known at this season of the year. This may point to a rath er wet fall season; at any rate if it begins to snow at this early date the sheep will be moving toward the lower country at a rapid rate. Mr. and Mrs. Lester White of Lexington, returned during the week from their wedding trip, and will now be at home on the farm of Mr. White's father north of Lex ington. While In town yesterday Lester reported a very heavy rain over the Lexington wheat belt, which will put the Bummerfallow In Just the right condition for the fall seeding. Mr. and Mrs. Jason Biddle of Rhea creek, were Heppner visitors on Tuesday afternoon. At that time Mr. Biddle was hoping for a good downpour of rain, and that wish be gan to be fulfilled on Tuesday night and all that came on Wednesday should have filled his heart's desire. Seeding will now proceed at a lively rate throughout that part of the county. The ladies and friends of the the Methodit church will have a cooked food sale on Saturday, Sept. 29, be ginning at 10 o'clock, at the place formerly occupied by Mrs. Tom Hughes in the McMurdo building, instead of the cafeteria lunches as announced last week. W. V. Pedro spent a day or two in the city the first of the week from his sheep rancrl down Cecil way. The arrival of rain in such an abundance Tuesday night and Wednesday caused W. V. to rejoice as it will be of much benefit to his sheep range. The first meeting for the fall season of Ruth Chapter No. 32, O. E. S., will be held on Friday eve ning, September 14, at Masonic temple. The officers would greatly appreciate a full attendance of the membership at this meeting. Mr. and Mrs. D. M. Ward were over Sunday visitors in this city from their farm home west of Rhea creek. Mr. Ward stated that in his part of the county the farmers were only awaiting the arrival of rain to begin their fall seeding. The Woman's Foreign Missionary society of the Methodist church will meet in the church parlors on Tues day, Sept 18, at 2:30 p. m. This is the time for all those who have mite boxes to turn them in. Please do not forget Secretary. Mrs. Malcolm D. Clark and daugh ter, Miss Marjorie, are spending the week in Portland, going to the city on Tuesday. F. A. Loren Mikesell and wife were week-end visitors at Heppner, stop ping over at the home of Mr. Mike sell's parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. E. Mikesell. Loren, who is agent for Standard Oil at Mabton, Wash., with Mrs. Mikesell had been on va cation, and visited many points of interest in Willamette valley and the southern part of Oregon. Mr. and Mrs. Frank Shively and Merle and Billy Beckett sons of Mrs. Shively, returned home the first of the week from their vaca tion trip, having been gone from Heppner about two weeks. They visited Yellowstone National park and points In British Columbia on the trip, and enjoyed it. immensely. Driving over from Pendleton on Sunday were Mr. and Mrs. Wilson Brock, who were accompanied by Mrs. Brock's sister, Mrs. Josie Jones, and Mr. and Mrs. J. B. Coo ley. The party spent several hours here in visiting with friends and relatives, returning to Pendleton late in the evening. John T. Kirk and family, who have been located at Payette, Ida ho, for the past two years, where Mr. Kirk was engaged in business, have returned to Heppner, their former home. He has disposed of his business interests at Payette, and the family will make their home here again. Honoring Mrs. P. A. Anderson, who has been visiting here for the past two weeks, Mrs. Hanson Hughes entertained at bridge Mon day night A few close friends were present. Mrs. Anderson has been visiting at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. E. F. Campbell. He attended to some legal affairs at the court house here before go ing on. A train load of sheep was shipped from the local yards Monday morn ing by C. W. McNamer and R. A. Thompson. Oral Scott and family of Black horse were over Sunday visitors in this city. Mitchell Thorn, local manager of the Pacific Power & Light Co., went to Arlington on Saturday where he met Mrs. Thorn who was returning from a visit of a week at Prosser, Wash., the former home of the Thorns. Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Thompson of Willow creek departed on Saturday for a short vacation. They expect ed to visit Boise, Spokane, then Seattle and Portland before re turning home. Mrs. A. H. Johnston returned home today from Portland and Sea side, where she has been spending the past few weeks, a guest of Mrs. Arabella Johnston, mother of Dr. Johnston. Stanley Reavis of Sunnyside, Wn., has accepted the position of chief clerk in the local office of Pacific Power & Light Company, and ar rived Monday accompanied by Mrs. Reavis. Larry Kegley of lone has been ap pointed Maytag agent for the ter ritory covering Morrow county, suc ceeding Ellis Minor, who with his family have moved to Hermiston to reside. Mr. and Mrs. Arnold Pleper of Pieper's canyon, were visitors in this city on Saturday. They had just returned from a visit with rela tives In Portland. R. A. Thompson delivered a band of sheep to J.
