PAGE SIX HEPPNER GAZETTE TIMES, HEPPNER, OREGON, THURSDAY, FEB. 2, 1928. "3 BAD MEN" A GRIPPING STORY THAT FASCINATES AUDIENCE FROM FIRST SCENE TO FINAL FADEOUT ft tiM J. FAR.B.ELU MAC OONALDtTOK SNTCMI,OU Vt! &OR.PfcJ, The epic photodrama, "3 Bad Men," Fox Films story of the open ing of the Indian lands for white settlement in the early 70's will he shown at the Star theater Thurs day and Friday. From the first title to the last fadeout this picture holds the at tention of the audience by its mas terly portrayal of one of the most glamorous and adventurous epochs of American history. Against a vast background of mountains; des erts and plains, and amid the strug gle of thousands of settlers for the best of the virgin lands, is woven a drama that holds an interest sel dom equalled.' For prabably never before have such strangely different characters played their parts in such strange circumstances. Here is a real story of two young pion eers, the orphaned Lee Carleton, played by Olive Borden, and foot loose Dan O'Malley, played by Geo. O'Brien. And guiding and watching over them like the fates themselves are the "3 Bad Men," the bully, the card sharp and the rustler. Here again three of the best known char acter actors of the screen give three of the most convincing portrayals conceivable, because these three are J. Farrel MacDonald, Tom Sant schi and Frank Campeau. The mushroom town of Custer on the edge of the virgin lands is re produced with historic fidelity, to gether with the typical characters of the times. These characters are played by some of the best known stars of the day. In fact, Lou Tel legen plays the part of the suave but ruthless gambler, Layne Hunt er, while Jay Hunt makes a telling picture as the old prospector. An other star who captures the hearts of the audience is Alec B. Francis. Nor is comedy lacking, for Georgie Harris, the diminutive Eng lish comedian, who plays the part of Joe Minsk, and Otis Harlan, who is the printer and editor of a pion eer newspaper, furnish plenty of laughs. John Ford, who gained fame with "The Iron Horse," has added great ly to his reputation by his direction of "3 Bad Men." Take care of yourself. from "sneezers" and "coughers" Had you and pneumonia will very likely remain strangers. A CHANGE OF HEART. One of the things that has caus ed a great deal of confusion in the minds of some has been a misun derstanding of the question of a change of heart Like every other subject we have only to consult what the scripture says to make everything clear. This will be the subject at the Church of Christ on Sunday morning. We rejoice in the new impetus that has been given to the work by our meeting and we hope to see the results in every department of the work. There is a class for every body in the Bible School which meets at 9:45. Christian Endeavor extends a welcome to all young people at 6:30. At seven-thirty our evening serv ice will begin with a joyous song service. There are still some to be baptized and we will also have this service in the evening. The evening speaker will be furnished by the Episcopal Convocation. MILTON W. BOWER, Minister. will go to Lena where he will cele brate a second mass at 10:30 a, m. and preach. This service will take place at the home of Mr. and Mra John Brosnan. Friday morning at 7:30 there will be mass in the Heppner church in honor of the Sacred Heart, it being the first Friday of February. After the mass throats win be blessed. In the evening at 7:30 there will take place the Holy Hour in honor of ST. PATRICK'S CHURCH. Rev. Thomas J. Brady, Pastor. Next Sunday will be the fifth Sunday after Ephiphany, and there will be mass with sermon at 8:30 in the morning. The pastor will of ficiate and preach. Immediately after this mass in Keep awayHeppner, Rev. Thomas J. Brady PNEUMONIA IS SAID TO BE PREVENTABLE (From State Board of Health.) This is the pneumonia season. The pneumonia toll for 1927 was 606. Pneumonia is one of the most prevalent and fatal of all acute diseases. Pneumonia Is a commun icable disease and is to a certain extent preventable. In this state pneumonia is a reportable disease and all cases should be placed in restrictive quarantine. Special quar ters should be provided and the patient should be isolated from the other members of the family. If these restrictions are not followed the health officer may place an ab solute quarantine on the premises. These conditions provide that if the family allow visitors in the sick room or if the family be so careless as to permit contagion to be spread, the case shall promptly be quaran tined. However, if your case of pneumonia is isolated, and is kept isolated, you will not be quarantin ed. This rule was not written as a joke or without forethought, for pneumonia is a contagious disease. It is not so much as smallpox or diphtheria but still contagious to a degree. It is just another one of those "germ diseases" caused by the "pneumococcus" in true pneu monia and by any one of a number of organisms in other types of the disease. In common with other throat, bronchial and lung infections, pneu monia Is characterized by cough ing; and this coughing, defined- as "sudden forced expiratory noise," expels by reason of its force not only solid or liquid matter than may be in the throat or lungs, but a fine spray as well. That fine spray, if from a diseased throat, is poison ous and to breathe it into your heal thy throat is about as safe a pro cedure as jay-walking blindfolded across Broadway. You may get across without being pushed over, of course. The law of averages takes care of that, and the law of averages, qualified by the state of your health and resistant force, has a great deal to do with you if you breathe this deadly spray. Keep away from it just as you would keep away from other communica ble diseases. Sleep right, eat right, and live right, and get some Joy out of life. Vou may miss a good time now and then but you can't have everything. Build a good resistance to disease. The Ed V. Price Man here the rest of TODAY with samples in the whole piece.
