The Home Economics club of the Grange gave a noodle and chicken supper Saturday night. This was fol lowed by an excellent program. A pantomine Hunt, some musical num bers! and several other clever selec tion were well received. Ray OlBon came home Sunday morning from Seattle for a Bhort visit with his parents. He is work ing with a signal crew of the U. P. Kings are finally out after eight weeks of isolation. Ruth and Fran cine had scarlet fever and the period ol desquamation extended almost in terminably. Mrs. Ciuy Barlow came up from an extended visit with her mother at White Salmon. Mr. and Mrs. R. S. Smith motored to The Dalles Saturday. Mr. and Mrs. Leo V. Root motroed to Hermiston Saturday to be with Marvin Root and wife who celebrated their crystal wedding. The men are brothers. Mrs. W. A. Price and son Billie were Arlington visitors Thursday. Noel Klitz had a boil on his arm which became infected. He had to tpend two days at Hermiston and has since had to go up frequently to have his arm dressed. ' Mrs. Mary E. Hiutt of Freewater it: visiting with her daughter, Mrs. Royal Rands and family. The section of the highway here has been oiled and members of the oiling crew moved to Umatilla on Monday. Geo. Agee, Chas. Barnes, Die bert Johnson, Bud Chaffee and other local men are employed on the high way. Mardell Gorham celebrated her third birthday last Friday when she had several of her little frionds in for the afternoon. A hunt for Easter eggs and other games brought pleas ure till the birthday cake was served. Cunning candy eggs were given the little guests as favors. Those pro rent were Murdell Gorham, Billie Price, Irene and Jesse Cox, Echo Coates, A. T. and Orthun llereim and Uonna Jane Hands. Incidentally the mothers enjoyrd the party as much i.s the children. Mothers present were Mesdamos Rands, Cox, Coates, Price, Hereim and Mrs. C. G. Blay den. Wanda and Don Goodwin of Con don came Sunday to visit their fa ther, W. A. Goodwin, who went to Tnc Dalles on Saturday and remain ed at the hospital. Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Goodwin and Betty Jean came don from Weston also to see the former's father. They with Maurice and Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Goodwin all had dinner together Sunday at the Goodwin home. Maurice left later for The Dalles to see his father. R. Kelly of Portland met with an accident last week when his car tipped over as it struck fresh oi. at too great a speed. The car was damaged and Mr. Kelly was damnged petty badly himself. He remained ft the Highway inn for several days and left the early part of the week for The Dalles to have an x-ray made as it was feared he had a rib or two broken. Mr. and Mrs. Adolph Skoubo have another girl. This is their fourth g.il. Sne arrive! Saturday it Her miston and weighed 8 pounds. Mrs. W. 0. King accompanied Mr. Warner to Hermiston Saturday to lave some dental work done. She had three teeth extracted and may be obliged to have several n ore removed The first Tuesday evening in May is the date for the regular meeting ot the P. T. A. and is the time for the election of officers. Some have ex pressed the thought that there really is no active need of a P. T. A. organ ization. We will admit that in past J ears it has used its power more or less as, a "sword of Damocles" over the heads of refractory boards or principals in this particular commun ity, but there is much splendid work that can be done through the P. T. A. and it may become a potent factor in the community. There is play ground equipment needed, there is a need for n.ore social affairs for the young peo ple, in fact there rae many things within the scope of the P. T. A. but if we cannot have concerted effort, it is best to let the organization lapse into unconsciousness. Let us have an expression of opinion at the reg ular meeting, first Tuesday in May. Beth Bleakman and Mrs. Matteson of Heppner were Boardman visitors Sunday at the Glen Hadley home. Mr. and Mrs. Frank Hayse and four children of Pendleton were visitors in Boardman Thursday for a short time, at the Hereim and Gorham homes. Mr. Hayse was formerly mainlainer here. We are requested to state that the Adventist church will be dedicated on Sunday, April 24 at 11 o'clock. Elder Peterson of Spokane will have charge of the services. The Misses Beougher, Silver, Falk and Mildred Messenger were dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. 0. H. Warner at the Highway Inn. Mr. and Mrs. R. S. Davis, Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Goodwin and Jasper Sar kinson of Castle motored to Hermis rcn Sunday evening to attend the movie. Chas. B. Orai and wife of La Grande were in Boardman Monday. Mr. Orai is the state weight and measure inspector. The Eastertide here was character ized by one of the most severe wind torms of the season, blowing Easter bonnets and togs awry but the church was taxed to capacity and all enjoy ed hearing the little tots speak. Church and Sunday school services were combined. Mrs. Boardman, sup (rintendent was ill and unable to at tend so Mr. Calkins presided. There was special music and Rev. Swogger t;ave a short talk. Mr. and Mrs. A. T. Hereim and two sons were entertained Sunday at a sumptuous dinner. In the afternoon the childreti had a merry time hunt jig Easter eggs. Gorhams store was robbed again Wednesday night. A suit of clothes, cigarettes, knives and similar articles were taken. Entrance was gained by breaking the lock on the front door. This is the third robbery here in the course of a year. Mr.- and Mrs. Royal Rands were hosts at a lovely dinner on Sunday, April 10, having the Boardmans, Mr. i.nd Mrs. Harvey Huff and Mary Anne Chaffee as guests. The Home Economics club of the Grange met Wednesday of last week with Mrs. John Brice. Each !ady brings a covered dish and when corn lined makes a treat for Rucullus. Last Thursday was visiting day and l lie Boardman teachers visited the Hermiston schools. Mrs. W. H. Mefford and Mrs. Leo lioot were all day guests of Mrs. Hereim last Wednesday. Renumber the demonstration train W ed n e sd ay. April 27 from 8 to 10 n. m. Be on time if you wish to see the tine dairy cows and hogs and hear the- interesting talks. This train is scheduled to be at Irrigon, Hermiston and Stanfield on this day and can not wait till the crowd gathers as we usually do here. Mrs. Glen Hadley was hostess Thursday evening to the Auxiliary ol the American Legion. Business was transacted and later refresh ments were served. Raisin week is April 25 to 30. This will be observed by the Union Pacific on all their diners and foods in which taisins are used will be featured. Norma Gibbons wai 13 years of age and a number of friends were asked in for the afternoon to help com memorate the occasion. Games of various kinds were played and all had a joyous time judging from the shouts of laughter. A big birthday cake was the center of all eyes and with the ice cream and the goodies made it a lovely party. Guests were Mary Anne Chaffee. Ruth Feess, Alice Cikiiis, Mildred Allen, Sybil Grace Macomber, Gladys Wicklander, Albert Boardman, Dallai Wilson, Vernon Root, Eugene Mingus, Paul Fecss and Baiil Cramer. Boardman high defeated Hermis '.on Saturday p. m., April 16 at Board man to the score of 11 to 2. The weather was exceedingly disagreeable but the boys played well. This is the third victory of the season for the Boardman team. Mrs. Daiy Gillespie has accepted the position as seventh and eighth grade teacher for next year. The senior class play, "The Elope ment of Ellen," will be given proba bly next week. This will be very good. The second annual Morrow County Declamatory contest will be held at Heppner Friday evening, Apr. 22. The representatives from Boardman will be Mlidred Ayers, "When Jimmy Comes Home from School," first grade; "A Mortifying Visitor," Mary Smith, third grade; "My Sinter Si'e," Have You Had Your Iron Today? Boardman has been looking over the school grounds and with his help, Mr. Dillabough, Mr. Kelly and the high school boys will plant trees in the vacant places.
