Christensen Endorses
Cooperative Marketing
"Ten million dollars worth of wool
was marketed through ninety-one co
operative marketing associations in
the United States last year," said
Chris L. Christensen, chief of the Di
vision of Cooperative Marketing of
'.he Department of Agriculture, and
nationally known as an agricultural
economist, in addressing the Califor
nia Wool Growers association in San
Francisco on November 6th.
"The Pacific Cooperative Wool
Growers association, with members
in Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Nevada
and California, is an example of the
successful growers' association, and
is one of the largest successful "co
operative wool marketing associations
in the United States," he said. He
named the Ohio Wool Growers asso
ciation as also having handled large
amounts of wool on the cooperative
plan.
The "Pacific," Which has been in
existence six years, last year handled
twenty-five per cent of all the wool
sold through farmeVs cooperative
wool marketing associations during
that year. In addition to its Port
land and San Francisco warehouses,
the association maintains sales of
fices in Boston and Philadelphia.
Mr. Christensen visited the Port
land warehouse of the association on
November 1st in connection with a
field trip he is making over the Uni
ted States, inspecting present coop
eratives. He inspected the equip
ment for handling wool, and the meth
ods of operation, and pronounced the
organization in excellent shape to
handle its members' wool. He ex
pressed satisfaction with the sound
and efficient way that its business is
being carried on and the prices it has
returned to members during its years
of operation.

making extensive improvements at
Lexington. The new Clarki Canyon
market road coming into town just be
low the depot, required a new con

bridge having just beeen completed
under the supervision of John Louy.
The crew is now at work on another
concrete bridge across Blackhorse
canyon just east of the city limits.
Grading operations are moving rapid
ly on the Clarks Canyon road, and the
Blackhorse market road will also be
graded. It is thought the Lexington
Butter creek road will also be graded
while the big county crew ia located
here. This road work will be a great
help to local men, for it is the policy
of the county court to give local men
the preference in employment on road
work.
