MORROW COUNTrS OFFICIAL PAPER
Foreign Adrartiiinl Representative
THE AMERICAN PRESS ASSOCIATION
And Now, the Aftermath.
A LL told, the primary election
just finished was clean, quiet
and dignified, it being almost en
tirely free of factional difficulties.
The candidates up for nomination
stood largely on their own merits,
and whether nominated or defeat
ed, took their medicine like men.
It was really a good example of
what the primary was intended to
be, except for the lack of interest
taken by the public generally.
There may be some question as
to whether or not the best men
were chosen. But in view of the
fact that good men were a major
ity among the candidates there
could have been little complaint
most any way the pendulum might
have swung. As it is. we believe
the electorate of Oregon has used
very good judgment in its selec
tion of candidates to go into the
fall election. If good men are
picked by both parties in the pri
mary there need be little misgiv
ing as to the outcome of the gen
eral election. Such, we believe, is
the case in this instance.
The way the republicans swung
to the old party candidates in the
primary would indicate a republi
can landslide in November. It
should be and will be, barring ac
cidents. Accidents, that is, such
as that of the Ku Klux Klan split
four years ago. So far there is
nothing of the sort on the horizon,
and it is not probable that there
will be. But just what turn the
democratic attack will now take
nrill nrt HnnVit rrrra intorflcinrt
o;.: . . . .
uu,t",u' 1 ,c,v-c r""'"
self to be a resourceful fellow in
the past, and his department of the
scrap may cause the grand old
party a good bit of grief. The
Haney-Steiwer battle will no doubt
be ship-subsidy vs. Americanism.
Just what reasons may be given
for the light vote is hard to say.
One thing we do believe, though,
is that the people of Oregon ate
pretty generally satisfied with con
ditions and as a whole didn't care
a whole lot how the election went.
Returns have shown that enly in
localities where a hot local issue
was up was there a heavy vote.
The twilight ball series just
completed in Heppner proved pop
ular among fans. It helped in fill
ing in on a few otherwise unevent
ful evenings, besides giving some
of the boys some good practice,
and creating interest generally in
the national sport. More games
of this nature are still in demand
this season and there is no doubt
but what this line of ball will have
its place in seasons to come.

This bank is a service institution organized to meet finan
cial necessities of its depositors. The amount of its ser
vice to its dpeositors often depends on the bank balances
they maintain.
This bank must carefully protect the funds deposited
here by its depositors. Money can be loaned only when
we feel sure that it will be safe. When a depositor main
tains a reasonably large, steady balance, it is an indica
tion to us that he knows how to use money successfully.
It gives us a reason to believe that loans to him will be
safe. That is one reason why depositors who maintain
large balances get better service from their bank. They
are entitled to it.
And even more than that, a large balance provides
the depositor with sufficient funds to take care of emer
gencies and business opportunities that may arise.
