West in 'Iron Horse'
The story of the wires nd the rails
which first linked the west with the
east, has been recorded on the screen
for the first time. Described by
Robert Louis Stevenson as a greater
achievement in the world's history
than the building of Troy, this tre
mendous theme furnishes he basis
for "The Iron Horse," the William
Fox super production at the Star
theater Sunday and Monday.

killed Portland "1925 Bill" thus sav
ing the state $3,000,000. Last session
of the legislature sponsored bill to
loan farmers frozen out, funds with
which to buy seed wheat. Also se
cured the passage of law providing
"seasonal licenses" (from April 1st to
October 31st) for farmers' trucks and
law to remove state tax of one-half
cent on distillate not used on roads.
Helped pass "market road" law in
1919 thus providing farmers and
stockmen Toads to get their produce
to market.
Favors state income tax with prop
erty tax offset.
Opposed to any increase in gaso
line tax without a like cut in auto
licenses.
Against Dennis resolution provid
ing for no income tax for fifteen
years.

When President Lincoln signed the
Pacific Railroad Act on July 1, 1862,
the bill included the provision that
a telegraph system must accompany
the rails, thus connecting the east and
west by wire and rail. It was the
first means of communication other
than stage coach and pony express.
Lincoln at hte time was striving to
unite-the north and south, but he did
not abandon one great dream for the
other. He was assassinated before
his dream could be realized.
The dramatic story has been made
into a powerful picture, with George
