It was or ganized last week. It has for its purpose the immediate organiza tion of an active Boy Scout troop, to which it will give its support. The significance of this organ- , ization may well be considered. For the last year or more several fraternal and other organizations of the city have discussed the Boy Scout situation, expressing their wish that an active troop be organ ized. To this end several com,- mittees were appointed. None of these committees knew just where to attack the problem, however, and there was evidenced a lack of willingness of any single organiza tion to carry it through alone. To bring the situation to'a head, a meeting of these' various com mittees was called last Thursday which resulted in the above named council. In this manner the ma jority of the fraternal organiza tions of the city and the American Legion have been brought into harmonious action, and through this council the Boy Scout move ment will be given the united sup port of the community in a way heretofore impossible. Already a scoutmaster has been placed on the job, and prelimin ary steps of organizing the- boys have been taken. By summer time, a smooth-running organiza tion will have been formed, with the Boy Scouts trained to take ad vantage of the opportunities of fered by this great American in stitution. THERE has been some talk of X bringing out a Morrow coun ty man for joint representative in the coming May primaries. The re publicans of the county should find a man from here for tHs place and get him into th-; running, as it is quite well understood that Uma tilla county would lay off and give our man a clear field. It has not . been possible, so far, to get the consent of some worthy citizen of this end of the district to enter the race, and we may fall down. There are a number that we might think of who could fill the bill, and make a winning race in the fall election but as these have been approached and do not feel that they are in po sition to go into the political game lust now, we refrain from men tioning names. This county should have the joint representative and we can get it providing a man is found who will consent to get on the primary ballot. THE condition of the back streets of Heppner these days Reminds one that the city might well afford to undertake a pro gram of grading them up and put ting them in shape for proper drainage. Besides being an eye sore, it is rather inconvenient for our citizens to have to put chains on their cars in order to get home The cost of this work, we are sure would certainly make our little wolud certainly make our little town much more livable this time of year. A most unusual winter, we hear most everyone remark, and we think so, too. But reports from over the county indicate that it isn't doing us any harm, and it is giving the benefits of the Florida sunshine without the expense of going to Florida. Ish ka bibble.
