superior to the finest whale
bone. Made in short, medium
and extra long waists.
There are many imitations, but you will

The Dayton Inlander says: Jas.
Orendorff was fined $50 and costs
amounting in all to S60, for taking
up and working an estray horse.
Orendorfftook up the animal last
fall and advertised it as an estray,
but neglected to fulfill the law in
having it appraised and sold. The
law makes a penalty for misde
meanors of this kind of not more
than $500 nor less than twice the
value of the animal thus taken.
The officers and appraisers were as
lenient as they could honorably be
with the old man, because it ap
peared to them that the misdemean
or was done more through neglect
than intentional wrong. Orendorff
gave bonds for stay of execution.
This ought to be a fair warning to
others.

HORSE THIEVES.
From the Waitebnrg Enterprise.
Between TFaitsburg and Dayton
and the mountains there has been
bold work done in the way of
horsestealing which has caused no
little excitement. There seems to
be a gang of men who come in
here with a scheme to gather up
a band of horses, disfigure the
brands, and drive them out, al
though that may not be it, but any
how they have caught horses,
changed their brands with scissors
by cutting the hair very close, in
whatever shape they wanted the
brand and cut their tails off. To
cut the, tail off from a horse disfig
ures it so one can hardly recognize
it, even if acquainted with it; but
to take the scissors and cut the
hair very close in whatever way
you want the brand makes it look
like an old brand and without look
ing close you can not tell the
difference. The principal work so
far has been on Whiskey creek
Hockei mountain, although it may
be in different places but not yet
found out, and has been all within
the last few days. However well
their plans may nave been con
cocted, unless they make the drive
within a day or so, everyone that
lost any horses will have them
back, for the same day it was found
out that horsethieves were around
men went to rounding up their
horses. Marion Weatherforcl lost
three, and has found one but is
still looking for the other two.
James McCully, on Whiskey
creek, lost four that he knows of-
The thieves were driving off horses
of Mr. Rominus. and being asked
where they were driving to, claimed
there was an estray they wanted to
seperate from the band. But as
soon they were past they left the
horses and rode off in great haste.
This was the first hint people had
that horsethieves were in the
neighborhood.
