Modern Bkyecrapere Itellttl. the State
ly Uothics.
One of tbe moat notable effects of
tbe high and masslvo modern archi
tecture In New York has been the
dwarfing of Gothic church spires. Old
Trinity splro, which a dozen years ago
was a landmark for the region all
about New York bay, bits long been
mado Insignificant by the marble pack
ing boxes, some of them exceeding It
In height, with which It Is surrounded.
Tbe noble view up Wall street, which
tbo artists bave done much to perpet
uate, still reinalna, but there la hardly
another point from which tbe mottt
beautiful splro In tbe city can be seen
to advantage. Grace spire still dom
inates tbe view up Broadway, but that
church pays a large annual rental to
prevent construction on the front of
the lot to the south, which la used In
summer for an open-air restaurant
Everywhere tbe Gothic spires are
being crowded about and belittled by
the pressure of business and tbe many
storied architecture of the day. Dut
the most notable victory over tbe tra
ditional spire Is In tbe case of Dr.
1'arkburat'a Madison avenue church.
The present edifice, hemmed In on two
sides by a skyscraplng office building,
which belittles Its spire, baa been sold
across Twenty-fourth street Obvious
ly Gothic architecture and a spire
would be at the same dlHadvantago on
that lot aa theprescnt spire la on the
other side of the street Bo the archi
tect has designed a church which Is
Corinthian In Its main features, but
with the addition of a dome. It will
look like a bank 'rather than the con
ventlonal church, but It will ault the
situation, and It Is enly on examplo
of the extent to which the American
school of business architecture Is mod
ifying the ideals of church builders.

and only requires that the water In

How tbe Cherokee Nation Oeta Over
the Vac Problem.
The race problem In tbe Cherokee
nation la solved to tbe general aatls
fartlon of the three races concerned
and tbe Intermediary mixed bloods. In
tbe location of homes the Cherokee
fullbloods and negroes are mostly In
settlements. Tbe Intermarried whites
largely are In towns and territory con
tiguous to each other. Tbe Cherokee
speaking citizens much prefer to asso
ciate together.
In the nation there are thirty schools
attended by fullblood Cherokee chil
dren and seventeen by negro children.
Tbe negro blood schools are not so by
legal requirement but as a corollary
of their preference to live near each
other. Ttie Cherokee and negro do not
intermarry or socially mingle. Two
semlnurles and an orphan asylum are
attended by fullbloods and mixed
bloods only, tbe colored high school by
negroes only.
In the Incorporated school districts
whites and Indians attend tbe same
schools, and race prejudice and undue
feeling on either side are being lost in
fellowship and friendship cultivated in
the class room and on tbe playground.
Both sides are better satisfied in tbe
combined schools than they were when
they were kept separate. Fullbloods
seem to mingle as freely with white
renters and their families of good char-
acted as they do with mixed bloods.
Of the 38,500 citizens of the Chero
kee nation the bent statistical informa
tion gives about 8,500 fullbloods, 8,200

Stomach Trouble
Catarrh of the Stomach Is Generally
Called Dyspepsia Something
to Produce Artificial Diges
tion Is Generally Taken.
Hence, Pepsin, Pancreatln and a Host
of Other Digestive Remedies
Has Been Invented.
These Remedies Do Not Reach tha
Seat of the Difficulty, Which
la Really Catarrh.
Ex TJ. 8. Senator M. C. Butler, from
Booth Carolina, was senator from that
state for two terms. In a recent letter
to Tbe Peruna Medicine Co.. from
Washington, D. C, says:
"I can recommend Peruna for dys
pepsia and stomach trouble. I have
been using your medicine for a short
period and I feel very much relieved.
It is indeed a wonderful medicine be
sides a good tonic." M. C. Butler.
The only rational nay to cure dys
pepsia la to remove tbe catarrh. Pe
runa cures catarrh. Peruna does not
produce artificial digestion, it cures
catarrh and leaves tbe stomach to per
form digestion in a natural way. This
is vastly better and safer than resorting
to artificial methods or narcotics.
Peruna has cured more cases of dys
pepsia than all other remedies com
bined, simply because it cures catarrh
wherever located. If catarrh is locat
ed in the head, Peruna cures it. If
catarrh has fastened itself in the throat
or bronchial tubes, Peruna cures it.
When catarrh becomes settled in tbe
stomach, Peruna cures it, as well in
this location as in any other.
Peruna is not simply a remedy for
dyspepsia. Peruna is a catarrh remedy.
Peruna cures dyspepsia because it is
generally dependent upon catarrh.
