Improvements In the postoQice last week
by way of the addition of 20 new lock
boxes. Two of the new boxes are quite
large ones, one of which will be used by
the Times, and we wish to extend to the
postmaster our sincere thank for pro
viding the Times a box that we do not
have to get down on our kneea to open.

and all report a very pleasant event.

The Christian F.ndesvor will give an
experience social in the Christian church
Saturday evening. A good program will
be rendered consisting of music, re
citations, etc. Supper will also be
served. Admission 10 cent. Supper
10 cent.
Thomas Gr'mshaw bought last Sat
urday MIX) three year old wetherea from
Con Carty for $2.30 This la 20 cent
less than waa paid (or the same grade ol
sheep last year. Yearling ewea are sell
ing for 25 cents less than the last year's
price. Mr Grimshaw did not buy the
Farnswortb sheep as wa stated in the
Times last week.
Taxpayera will be somewhat disap
pointed to know that they will get no
exemption on their assessments this yesr.
The reason for this Is that the new tax
law, which was passed at the special
session of the legislature, did not have
an emergency clause attached. In future
assessments, however, the usual 100
exemption will be deducted.
T. W. and A. L. Ayer have inaugur
ated a curb improvement that others
would do well to follow a a mean of
beautifying their residence property.
They have made a two- foot curb on the
outside of the sidewalk along their
property on Chase street, which has
been seeded to lawn grass. It is an
Improvement that costs little but adds
greatly to the apperauce of the street.
Judge T. W. Ayer returned Tuesday
evening from short trip to Portland
and Irrlgon. The judge expresses him
self a being very much plersed with
Irrlgon and think it prospects are very
bright. The ditch, ho rays, is furnish
ing plenty of water for irrigation and
many orchards and garden are being
planted and are doing well.
Geo. Conner, Phil Metchat, Atty. C. E
Redfied and Lets Matlock started from
Heppner at 3 o'clock Monday afternoon
expecting to get to Lexington afoot in
time to catch the S p. m. train. Aa it is
only nine mile and they had two hour to
make It in, they took their guns alotg
expecting to bag a few squirrel and
rabbit on the way. Results: Killed one
blackbird, aaw two squirrels and no
rabbits, walked seven miles down the
track at 5:00, Sagged the train and got
back home at 5:30 feeling fresh and
supple. They say they could have made
the trip on time had they not fooled
away so much time shooting at birds,
But Harry Cummin- i yet entitled to
the belt as champion walker of Morrow
county.

The Odd Fellow celebration, Tues
day, wa very enjoyable affair. A
large crowd came from Heppner, lone,
and the country. The Lexington Lodge
met the visitors at the train. All
marched to the hall. After sbort rest,
the march was resumed to the Meth
odist church, which wa filled to over
flowing. The anniversary ceremony
waa then rendered, after which Mini
Rasmus, of Heppner, eang a solo and
responded to an encore. The. Heppner
quartette eang two selection. 8. E.
Notson, Rev Frank Adkins, and Rev.
W. O. Miller made short addresses.
Then came the dinner at the ball under
the management of the Rebekah ladies.
Oh, Mr. lull tor, you missed it. Buch a
(east you will not see soon. W. P. Mc
Millan' graphophone enlivened the
dinner hour with muaic. After dinner,
the crowd wa called by the band to
the ball ground where a spirited game
of ball wa played. Kverybody seemea
to enjoy themselves. We think we are
justified in calling the celebration
success.
