SNOWFLAKES
By Mrs. Verr Howe Moen
The day was dark.
The sky, all one grey cloud,
Had filtered out the sun's clear light,
And spread a cold dull greyness .
O'er all the earth.
A little cold it W89,
And dark and wet and dull,
A sad discouraged day
And then the snow be gan!
'Twas thru a window covered o'er with screen
1 saw it first.
Great flakes like feathers
Fluttered down,
And gently kissed the earth
Quickly I dropped my work
And left the house
To stand upon the porch
And watch. ;
I looked into the sky,
And saw
A dancing multitude of flakes.
Like fairies,
Clothed in party gowns of white.
They were.
They danced and sang
Witn ylee.
And held each other's hands;
Then kised each other softly
And nestled softly on the earth.
'Twai like some master of the sky
Had taken pure white cotton clouds
Such as one sees in summer.
And put them quickly
Thru some great coars? mill
An inch across,
Two inches, yes
And some were nearly three!
All dancing madly
In their flight
From Heaven to earth.
All dancing wildly,
And then nestling down
Close, against the bosom
Of the earth.
So beautiful it was
That lean scarce believe
That it was not a dream
And 1 must look again
To see
That snow is on the ground
Ye beaunteous fairy snow flakes,
Tho tomorrow you are gone.
Will always live!
For Bights so beautiful as this
Can never die,
But live forever
In the hearts of men.
