The agricultural population, sar$ Cm

Pliny the EKlor.
THE INCOME TAX
Hving in mind that th state re
quired $3,000,000 mote than could
tv raised without a vole of the
people, I suggested to the legisla
U'.re the income tax and the tith
ing hill,- hoping that the income
tax would produce about $2,000,
009 and the tithing bill something
leas than $l,C00.00O. The income
t&X was passed. The tithina bill
was defeated by the legislature.
Appropriations were made to
taling approximately $4,000,000
in excess hf available state rev
enue 1 vetoed bills providing for
$1,300,000, leaving a deficit of
over $2,000,000 for the current
biennum.
Governor Patterson.
IN VICT US
From out the night which shelters me
Black as the pit from pole to pole,
I thank whatever gods there be
For my unconquerable soul.
In the fell clutch of circumstance
I have not winced nor cried alcud.
Beneath the bludgeonings of chance,
My head, though bloodied, is not bowed.
Beyond this place of wrath and tears
Looms but the horror of the shade
And yet the menace of the years
Finds, and shall find me, unafraid.
However strait may be the gate,
How charged with punishment the scroll,
I am the master of my fate
I am the captain of my soul.
Henley.
CROP OUTLOOK GOOD 1
Lexington Busincs
Man Optimistic.
"If crop prospects hold out
until harvest, Morrow county will
have the greniest yield of wheat
in her history" is the opinion ox
pressed to this paper Karl L.
Uach. Lexington implement deal
ei who was in the city a short
time on Wednesday afternoon.
Mr. Beach is basing his opinion
upon a personal visitation to the
w heat fields covering the greater
portion of the county, that he
has made during the past week,
a:td his survey of the situation
has been quite complete, lie has
taken in al! of the wheat belt
with the exception of upper E:ght
Mile and the Ilardman area, and
his long experience, covering a
period of about thirty years, spent
iti the Lexington wheat belt,
would seem to qualify Mr. Teach
as an exput witness when it
cuhiea to testimony torching the
the croD outlook.
Ban ing adverse weather con
ditions or some calamity, Morrow
county shoul have the greatest
ctop in her history this season.
We are justified in making this
prediction from present conditions
and the further face that tht
acreage of both fall and spring
town grain is larger than for
many years past.
