the League leaders after having
defeated Condon, two straight.
They were handicapod by the
absence of Dutch Itietmann, but
played the best game of the year.
Cochran hit the first pitched
ball out of the lot and made third.
Werner Rietmann brought him
in with a sacrifice fly to Ander
son who ran far into left for the
catch. Drake bit to second and
waa thrown out. Davia struck
out Heppner started with Smith
going out short to firat, Ander
son hit a hot grounder to Davis,
who diverted the ball toward
and Anderson made first, Van
Marter forced him at second
and Drake at ruck out. That end
ed the scoring until the last half
of the ninth inning when, with
one atrike and one ball on him,
Van made a two base hit and Le
Mear hit the first ball out of the
lot for a home run,, thereby but

has had much experience in Can

daughter Mildred went over to

Flossy Stender spent a few

Lee Howell went to Eugene this
Thursday.
Curtis Davis who has been
pitching all season for the lone
base ball team, left Tuesday for
Gold Hill, Oregon.
Mr. Manning, of Vernonia,
came Weducaday to accept the
position of pitcher for the lone
base ball club made vacant by tLe
resignation of Curtis Dsvis.
Mr. and Mrs H. C. Wood and
son Billy went to Condon, FriJav
W. E. Bullard and C. A. Low
went to Heppner, Friday.
Perry Bartlemay of Shears
bridge was in lone Sunday.
The cream shipments from the
lone Railroad station, last month
totaled 1044 gallons, valued at
$1252.80. The total of all R. R.
charges waa $59 94,
H. C. Wood and Mrs. Miflen
went to Grecham, Monday. Mr.
Wood returned Tuesday.
Mr. and Mrs. Fred Griffin and
son Fredie went to Gresham Fri
day to visit Mrs. Griffin's parents
Mr. and Mrs. Millen.

CHAMPIOSHIPGAME
Last Friday, May 6th, the lone
High School was defeated by the
Lexington High School, at Hepp
ner for the championship of the
Upper Columbia Athletic League
by a score of 6 to 4.
The game was even for the
first four innings, neither side be
ing able to score. In the fifth in
ning, however, Lexington collect
ed a few hits and aided by sev
eral errors, were able to score 6
runs which were the only runs
they made throughout the game,
In the seventh inning, lone, by
bunching several hits, were able
to score three runs which were
they made till the last of the
9th. when one score was maae,
The game wss very fast and
interesting in spite of the fact
that a few errors were made.

Wednesday evening, ten sopho
mores and Mrs. Patterson. IClass
Advisor, along with beans, spud
hips, sandwiches, pickles, dough
nuts, coffee, kindling, robes ano
cooking utennils were Bob Mc
Cabe's Reo car, and proceeded on
their way to a grove near Morgan
Supper was cooked and every
one had eaten a generous suppl)
of beans, when camp was stain
peded by a crowd of lone bums.
Poor fellows! All they succeeded
in stealing were a few bread and
