The Baptism Plague '
The JewiHh Gazette, published 'l
In Yiddish at Vienna, writes with
regret of what it calls "the bap
tlsm plaguespreadinginVienna."
It says that wii hln the last twelve
years twelve thousand Jewa in
that city have joined Christian
churches, about half of them be
coming Catholics. It is reported
that In Hungary forty thousand
Jews have been baptized, that In
Budapestthe Presbyterians alone
have received two thousand five
hundred, and that in Ukrania
many Christian congregations,
composed exclusively of Jews,
have been organized.
THE PRESIDENT ON
REFORESTATION.
One fourth of our soil is better
suited to timber growing than
anything else. 1 cannot escape
the conviction that our industrial
and agricultural stability will be
strengthened by bringinging in
full productive use this great em
pire of land. Although much pro
greas ha been made in public for
estry and hopeful beginnings in
private forestry, we still have a
vast agregale of idie or scmiidle
forest land, and another large ag
regale of pour farm land that
might more proliiably grow tim
. ber insleal of adding to the prob
leni of agricultural overproduc
tion.

Wood Rot
Wood rot is caused by low
forms of plants, of which the
punks or brackets some times
seen on trees, logs, or timbers
are the fruits. Tbey produce mill
ions of spores or seed so small
they may be carried by the wind.
When a spore drops into a crack
id vood and conditions lavoraoie
it developes. Tiny, hair-like
growths spread from the rot
plant in all directions. They feed
on substances in the wood, thus
breaking down its structure.
