Thf h young people deserve to
be praised for their excellent
work throughout the semester,
for they have worked conscien
tiously to get as much as possi
ble out of their school work. Nor
have they narrowed their activi
ties to subject matter alone. The
majority have taken part in out
aide activities as wed. "
Kathryn Feldman, Mildred
Smith, Dorri Guszel and Ar'eta
Farrens all took Important parts
in the school play and are active
ly interested in Banket Ball.
Frank Mason, who also took part
in the play is a football letter man
and a member of the the basket

ters and are basket ball men.

book learning.

! MEANING OF DETENTION
PERIOD
The "Detention Period'which
was Introduced into the high
school program at the beginning
of this year, ia not what some
may believe It to be, and to pre
vent any misunderstanding, we
wish to give the parents of the
cemmnnity a clear idea of what
it really if.
First of all when a student is
not doing favorably in a subject
he needs a chance to improve.
The detention period affords him
this opportunity as it gives him
an additiinal period ?f study each
day under the supervision of a
teacher.' If he takes advantage
Of it, he will soon be making an
improvement. Eventually this im
provement will be so perceptible
that his name will not be on the
list when it is read at the begin
ning of each week.
Asother important point about
Detention is that it persuades the
student to work hard in his sub
jects, thus preventing his havirg
to remain after rchool, for the
hours from 3: 15 to mealtime are Brist.w, Treasurer. Delia McCur
hiohlv valued bv the student forlnu WarHan Aria Triers PnnHnt
recreation and relierrrom study.
The Detention Period has prov
ed a valuable help in raising the
standard of the high school thif
emester and may prove h satis
foctorv remedy for cases of sprng
fever later this year. At first be
ing on the detention lisc was trentLuci!e Uristow, Left Supporter
ed as a good joke by the students,
but after a few weeka they real
ized that this period was meant
for study in-lead of play. Keep
ing up their work satisfactorily
proved more attractive than be.
ing on the Detention list; hence
their subjects have been studied
more diligently to avoin the ne-
cessityof the after school session.
In closing we wish to add that
that Detention is not a punish
ment. It is a privilege to be appre,
ciated by the student, wherein
he can bring his work up to "i
standard of his classmates. Itin
dicats to mm ine type oi wu"MMjan
he is doing and what ne ta ex
pected to do, thus preventing
failures that might otherwise oc
cur.

the visiting team.
The girl' game was the second
