occurring at grade crossings en
the Southern Pacific during the

It will be noted that in nearly
22 per cent of the total accidents
automobiles ran into and rtruck
trrins instead of trains striking
automobiles; that more than 15
per cent of total ran t hrough and
broke down crossing gates low
ered to protect them from en
approaching train; and that in
45 instances crossing flagmen,
standing until the last moment
waning them of an approaching
train, were run down, resulting
in three flop man being killed and
39 injured. It will also be noted
