OPPORTUNITY
BY WALTER MALONE
They do me wrong who fay I come no more
When once I knock and fail to find you in;
For every day I stahd outside your door,
And bid you wake, and rife to light and win.
Wail not for precious chances passed away,
Weep not for golden ages on the wane!
Each night I burn the records of the day:
At sunrise t very soul is born again.
Laugh like a boy at splendors that have sped.
To vanished joys be Mind and deaf and dumb;
My judgments seal the dead past with its dead,
But never bind a moment yet to come.
Tho deep in mire wring not your hands and weep,
I lend my arm to all who say "lean"
No shamefaced outcast ever sank so deep
But yet might rise again and be a man!
Dost thou behold thy lost youth all aghast?
Dost reel from righteous retribution's blow?
Then turnirom blotted archives of the past
And find the future's pages white as snow.
Art thou a mourner? Rouse thee from thy spell;
Art thou a sinner? Sin may be forgiven;
Each morning gives thee wings to flee from bell,
Each night a star to guide thy feet to heaven.

Selection of Dairy Cattle Breeds
Influenced by Shows

Many a man who Is undecked as
to the breed of dairy entile thut hu
will wlvrt has been Influenced In
making his duclslon by the animals
of s. particular breed thut ha hus
ten in public.
The Individual breeder secures a
treat deal of advertising aa tlia re
ault ot exhibiting; at iu!iv, or In of
fering good animal lit ml,lla eak'i.
It gives peopla u. tlimiio to tea an I
know the kind of atoi k thnt a man li
breeding and paves t::o way for fu
ture bualneu.
It Is essential that special care and
attention bo given dairy tinlmuls fur
In advance of the time that they arc
to be exhibited or sol 1. Exhibiting
or selling anlmula publicly In their
every day clothes Is poor adverthilng
nd puts them at a dioadvantage
when the competition Is keen. It
takes several weel;s to put a dairy
enlmal In good fIiomt condition an J
what applies to firing for show ap
lilies as well to fitting for salo.
It Is Important that tho dairy ani
mal to be exhibited or sold be In
flood flesh. A good covering of flesh
i'. ilds to size, Increases smooth nesn
rnd Indicates that tho animal lit
thrifty and In good health. lMlry
"nlmals being fitted need extra lettl.
Stabling and blanketing are great
uds In putting tho hair and hi Is In

uous blanketing hull keep tho ani
mal clean, sweats the hldo, thus Im
proving Its handling qualities and
makes the hair lay to the body, The
blanket need not be' expensive but
It must be tied on securely. Y
Kvery dairy animal that la to be
exhibited should have the hair
clipped from the entlro body about
three weeks previous to the date of
the show or sale. This will get rid
of the old hair end allow a new,
even growth to develop which will
greatly Improve the appearance and
Inrronae the selling value of the
animal.
A point often overlooked In the
preparation of a dairy animal for
show or sale Is thut of training to
lead and stand properly. An un
trained animal cannot display IU
good points to advantage If It com
bats the efforts of the attendant to
exhibit It properly. A little time
spent each day In training to handlo
profierly will save effort and em
barrastiment at the show or sale and
Increase the financial return.
While In the show or sale ring, the
man in charge of an animal should
have one main thought In mind,
namely that of showing the animal
to advantage, By this Is meant that
when It stands, Its feet are properly
plucod, back straight and head alert.
Any movement on the part of the at
tendant or animal should be as
rraeeful as possible. Until the rib
bons are placed or the auctioneer's
hammer fulls, take no chance,
torgue, is from the Lo-d.
2. All the ways of a man are
clean in his own eyes: but the Lord
welgheth the spirits,
3. Commit thy works unto the
Lord and thy thoughts shall be
established.
4. The Lord hath made all
things for himself; yea, even the
wicked forth day ot evil.
5. Every one that is proud of
heart is an abomination to the
Lord: though hand join in hand
he shall not he unpunished.
C. By mercy and truth iniquity
shall be purged; and by the fear
of the Lord men depart from evil.
7. When a man's ways please
the liord, he maketh even his en
emies to be at peace with him.
8. Better is a little with right
teousi'ess, than great revenues
without right.
9. A man's heart deviseth his
way: but the Lord directeth his
steps.
