OUR PICNIC
THE BALLOT
A WBA'OX that comes down as light
As falls tin snowflakt on the soil;
But txecutts a frit man a will
Aa lightning Juts the will ot HOD.
J. Pkrpunt
Last Friday the first four grades
ha 1 a picnic.
The Minor children invited us
to their home.
We had our picnic on their love
ly lawn and our parents took us
down in car.
They fixed good things for us
to eat t:o.
We'atc like pigs , and before
we were through, things did not
taste so good.
We had a great play all dry
and wish for another good time
next year.

WARREN'S ADDRESS TO THE
AMERICAN SOLDIERS
John Piepont
Stand! the ground' your own my braves!
Will ye give it up to slaves?
Will ye look for greener grave?
Hope ye mcrcv still?
What's the metcy despots feel?
Hear it in that baule peal!
Read it in yon bristling steel!
Ask it, ye v. ho will
Fearye foes who kill for hire?
Will ye to your homes retire?
Look behind you! their afire!
And, before j o'i, see
Who have done iti Fom the vale
On they come! And will ve quail?
Leaden rain and iron hfail
Let their welcome be!
In the God of battles trust!
Die we may, and die wemust;
But, 0. where can dust to dust
Be consigned so well,
As where heaven its dews shall shed
On the martyred prtriots bed,
And the rocks shall raise their head.
Of their deed to tell!

Many college graduates will take exception to the advice given
Vancouver Kiwanians Thursday by Norman F. Coleman, presi
dent of Reed College of Portland, that tkey refuse their sons and
daughters a col'fie education.
A survey of positions held by college graduates thronghout
the United States compared with high positions held by those
without a College education, wouldbe interesting and perhaps in
structive to those inclined to take theftatements of Presidnt Cole
man too seriously. Ettst Orgonian.
