There is now such a frequent
recurrance of malfeasance in
office that people are often in
clined to think that these are the
worst of times and that in the
days of the fathers probity and.
honor ruled in public office.
We should remember that only
the cases in which men prove
false to the trust reposed in
them in publicity given and that
for every one of these there are
thousands who prove by their
conduct that they hold with
president Cleveland that public
office is a public trust.
It would do our pessimists
good to read the newspaper files
a hundred years airo They will
find that the idea that the idea
