Somehow, she could not bear to think

Why Not Learn Truth?
Illng a-tlng a-llng went the telephone

A desd silence fell upon the room;
Brother listened quite openly.
Hello," began Bister. "Oh, It's

braying donkey. Tbs long-distance
conversation Continued for a few more
noncommittal monosyllables, and then
Sister said good by and returned to
her interrupted meal and ber ribald
relatives.
She bad a stern expression of coun

place, she remarked, "I wish you
wouldn't laugh Ilka a car cranking,
Brother."
Brother put his hand over his mouth
to suppress hla rlslblea, but Sister
didn't notice. "low should I laugbT'

Don't explode," said ahe, taking
him quite seriously. "Open your mouth
and your throat and let the laugn

finally dying awar softly and deli

Obi Ho!" roared Brother, unable
to restnln himself any longer; "you

And he emitted a perfect series ot
bellows. 0 I
"For heaven's sake, don't laugh at
all If you have to make auch terrible

"Ha 1 ha I" cried Brother, too pleased
for words at his success; "I mustn't
laugh I ran only smile, I suppose I"
Then he fixed his featurea into a huge
Kid cavernous grin, opening his mouth
without making a sound, so wide that
they could see into the depths ot his
raw, red Interior.-
At this point Sister left the table

Land of Flying AnimaU
Australia la the home of flying ani
mals and boasts of at least twenty spe
cies. They claim to have flying mice,
squirrels, opossums and also a species
of hear that flies. The species gen
erally is referred to as "phalnnger."
This means that they have, extending
from the front to the hind legs, a mem
brane which enables them to float In
quite graceful way from tree to tree.
They are not really flying animals, but
gliders. The fifing squirrel Is said to
be the most beautiful mammal In the
world. It la odd that In the land where
many animals fly, birds often cannot
fly at all. Both the emu and the cas
sowary are practically wingless and
have to depend upon their long ana
strong legs to escape from their ene
mies.
Kangaroo Meat Dainty
It Is said thnt all parts of a kan
gnroo are good for food, the flesh be
ing very like that of hare or small
venison : but the tall is the only part
which has much meat on It, the rest of
the animal being extraordinarily
gnare and lean. The tall Is thick and
fleshy, nearly as big as man's leg;
and. broiled on the embers In Its own
skin, which drsws off afterward like
glove, or made into soup or hash, Is
considered dish flt ror a prince.
