The seal, with its bold, victorious fpure. typifies the movement ahich it ls f.nanced so successfully that within the last fourteen years the death rate from tuberculosis has been cut in half in the United States. Throughout the country, one hun dred thousand people are enjoying the Christmas season, who would have perished if the disease were as uncontrolled as it was a decade and a half ago. In Orefon, the toll in tuberculosis deaths in was 623, and the best estimates indicate that about 5000 annl. in tha ctotji are afflicted. Tu- kotvi.lnoie is now ehankiterized by leading specialists as a preventable curable disease, and one tnat neea unt menace the lives of OUT citizens. if known measures of prevention and proper living are put into practise. Deppite the 6 to 0 defeat admin istered to Oregon by the Multnomah Athletic Club of Portland Thankspiv inp Day, the University completetd successful football year. The sea son's play demonstrated Coach Joe haddock's ability to take in hand a new eleven, train the men m a new i system of p'my, and then make an ex-1 traordinary showinp. ; The alumni, students, and other backers of the Oregon team must be ; entirely satisfied with the showing: ' made by the team, which defeated both the University of Washington, one of he strongest teams in the Pa-, cific Coast conference and the Ore gon Agricultural College Both games were won by scores of 7 to 3 In each contest, Oregon played brainy foot ball and at crucial moments the line held like the Rock of Gibraltar. j Oregon held the heavy W. S. C. team to a tie score, vanquished Whit- man by a big score. The team lost to Stanford and Idaho. Stanford tied for the Pacific Coast championship and Idaho took first honors in the Northwest conference. Coach Maddock, who learned his football at Michigan under Yost and who turned out championship teams at the University of Utah for five years, lived up to his advance repu tation as a winner. Oregon shou'd have a splendid sea son in 1P25. With the exception of Capt. Dick Eeed, this year's varsity will be intact next year. Thi first team m atrial, together with this sea son's freshmen who will be eligible for the varsity next year, should give Haddock a lot to work with next fall. Although the student council has not checked up finally to ascertain tfie number who won varsity emblems this fail, as far as is known 14 men won the football wO." Captain Eeed re ceives his third award as an Oregon athlete. Shields, Bailey, V irton, Mautz, Bliss, Terjeson and Anderson receive their second awards. Jones, Vitus, Kerns, Smith, C. Johnson and M.mnaugh get their first varsity let ter. Oregon is assured of a veteran team ith a lot of reserve material, and the year 15 should see Wad dock driving hia eleven toward a confer ence title. Too Much Heat Cause of Many Common Colds State Board of Health. One of the most important predis posing factors to acute respiratory diseases is breathing hot, vitiated ar.d duty air. More people suffer from common colds than any other single ailment. The urn total of the incon venience, complications and economic loss resulting from common colds class thepe infections among the str-i iour diseases. The prevention of ' colds consists, frpt, in avoiding peo ple who have coids, and second, in guardirg aguinst thu predisposing causes. Avoid too much beat. Accustom yourself to healthful temperatures. If you would have red cheeks and clear eyes, rkep out of doors. The uni.erxal demand of the present day in human beings is efficiency. Any thing thtt will increase efficiency is to be welcomed, Jn general, cool moving air of a muderat, low humidity, is more con ducive to efficiency than a hot, humid, still air, Kxpcrti on ventilation have discovered that sixty-eight degrees Fahrenheit gives th best results in working efficiency and personal com fort, A thermometer is absolutely neci'Mary for determining correct tcmperaturts. rrt-nh air is essential for building and maintaining good healOi. Abundance of air should be asHurrd by open window ventilation. A welt designed window board will prevent drafts. Children who spend the entire day in a poorly ventilated school room ate not given a fair chsnct for proper development. Good ventilation is a big factor In the wr on respiratory dineasei.
