down at work. In some manner the
wheel waa jarred from iti reeling
place and fell, itriking Mr. Ayera on
the head and eutting a naity gaah,
tha effect of the blow laying' hie out.
Ilia aon, Charlie, waa at work up
stairs and heard the groans of his
father and rushed to hia relief.
Aside from a severe bruise on the
head and the cut mentioned, Mr.
Ayera escaped further injury and at
last reports had about recovered
from ita effects.
Eugene McCarthy, extensive sheep
owner of Casper, Wyoming, was in
Heppner over the week-end looking
for sheep to buy but could not get
what he wanted. He reports the
sheep industry on the up-grade in
his state and quite a number of
nockmasters have been contracting
their Wii clip. Some 60,000 fleces,
among which was the clip of Mr. Mc
Carthy, have been sold on contract
at 40c to Draper & Co., and 16,000
fleeces were later contracted to Hol
lowell, Jones 4 Donald at 42Hc per
pound. No contracting has been done
so far in Oregon, and the local sheep
men will not likely do any. They
are pretty well convinced that a bet
ter price will be received for their
1925 clip and it should reach 60 cents
for the better grades of wools.
A. S. Fetterman, representing the
Spokane Draper Co. of Spokane Wn.,
called on their dealers here on Sat
urday. The Peoples Hardware Co., of
this city handle htc product of the
Spokane Draper Co. and will continue
to represent them at Heppner during
the coming seasoti. Mr. Fetterman
made this office a pleasant call, stat
ing he had been requested to do so
by Rev. H. A. Van Winkle, formerly
pastor of the Christian church here,
and now pastor of the First church
in Spokane, where he la doing a fine
work. One of the features of his
work is the big men's class of over
600 to which Mr. Fetterman belongs.
This class is aside from a member
ship of better than 1000 in Mr. Van
Winkle's church.
Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Peterson re
turned the first of last week from
their honeymoon trip, covering a per
iod of about two monthe, which waa
spent at the former home of Mrs.
Peterson in McPheraon, Kansas. The
young couple were married in Port
land on Sept. 22nd, and left imme
diately for Kansas. Mrs. Peterson was
formerly Miss Esther Ingstrum of
Portland. .They were given a royal
welcome by their numerous friends
and neighbors upon their return to
tha Peterson farm south of lone,
where they expect to reside.
The Oregon Stata Game Commis
sion is offering tha following addi
tional bounties on predatory animals:
wolf, 26; cougar, S25; wild cat, $3.
These bounties ara in addition to
those paid by the various counties.
Hides must be presented to the coun
ty clerk in the county in which the
animal was killed and affidavit of
such killing be made and forwarded
to the State Game Commission. All
wolf hides must be forwarded to the
Commission for identification.
Ora L. tiarlow, one of the young
farmers living south of lone, -was a
visitor in Heppner for a short time
on Monday. He states that grain in
his part of tha county ia sprouting
well but as yet haa not appeared
much above the ground, due to the
cold weather. A plentiful supply of
moisture has fallen so far and the
crop conditions are not unfavorable.
Mrs. Veasey, engaged in raising
sheep in the Yakima country, was a
visitor in Heppner the first of the
week, desiring to purchase lambs and
old ewes. We did not learn whether
ihe succeeded in getting what she
wanted or not. As a matter of fact,
there ara not a great many aheep of
any kind to be disposed of here just
at preaent.
Tha Women's Auxiliary of All
Saints church will hold their annual
baaaar on December 2nd at tha store
of Gilliam at Bisbee. There will be
many articles of fancy work, etc.,
suitable for Christmas gifts.
A delegation of 11 young people,
representing the C. E. society of the
Christian church at lone, attended the
district convention at Stanfield last
week. From reports, tha gathering
was a very profitable one and much
enjoyed by all attending.
A son was born to Mr. and Mrs. E.
J. Starkey of this city at tha mater
nity home of Mrs. G. C. Aiken on
Monday, November 17.
