VIRTUE finds it truest tjrssion in justice. Liberty and equality are empty words onless they rest up on justice which at all times is the true principle for humanity. Separate liberty or equality from justice and neither tan sund. The passion of all rreat prophets throughout all apes hi been for justice. It ia the one-word definition of the Golden Rule. It was not only the basis of the teachings of Jesus but of all trreat relipious seers and pro phets. Each in his turn and time and in his own way said the same thing. Confucius put it: "What I do not wish men to do to me, I also wish not to do to them." Justice is virile: it is never passive or indifferent. It is the truth in ac ton. Justce may be violent: it is al ways violent to the one who offends it. We may prize success, covet wealth, seek honor, but none of these can satisfy unless they come through justice. He is great who, for justice's sake. can forget friends, km, self-interest all to fight for or to work for that which is right for another, a stranger perhaps, or even an enemy. e can not secure justice for ourselves through denying justice to others. It is not in the order of things, for justice is consistent, impartial and always fair. Though justice is impartial "it not blind. Science is governed by its lawa. The nation that loves liberty most sincerely and fights only for human justice is seldom found in the brutal entanglements of war and then only in a benignant war made holy by the passion for justice. The nation that covets property and men, that seeks to enrich itself by devastating its neighbor, is found most often in the throes of war and then for the shame ful and unsatisfying end of boldly defying justice. And as with nations so with men. Such nations come to no good end. "Justice," said Danied Webster, "is the greatest interest of man on earth It is the ligament which holds civil ized beings and civilized nations together." Happiness and progress are secured only when justice is honored. s-s-s IX SUNXY CALIFORNIA. RETURNING visitors from Califor- nia give some startling informa tion regarding real estate operations there. They say that real estate ag enta, men and women, are to be found about 10 feet apart in Southern Cali fornia and that the real residents of the country are privately advising strangers to steer clear of lot pur chases. It is assumed that while the trading continues those who buy property and immediately turn it may escape loss but that the final holders will be caught. The statemens is also made that many of those engaged in realty work in the southwest are plain crooks. A former Oregon woman, living near Los Angeles, was taken to see a lot which the agent was trying to sell her. The lot shown her was very de rirable and well worth the price ask ed. So she paid $500 down, presum ing the had made a good purchase. But a few months later when she went to pay her taxes she found she had been grandly bilked. She had not been given title to the lot that was shown her but merely had title to a piece of property that was worth less. She endeavored to find the men who had swindled her but they had flvwn. She is loser to the exteid of $500. East Oregonian. $$$ KEYES DRAWS HEAVY PENALTY. Henry D. Keyes, of Fossil, county judge of Wheeler county, was arrest ed on the highway east of The Dalles last Tuesday afternoon by Hans Bla aer. traffic officer, and brought to The Dalles when B laser's attention was attracted to his car by Keyes' er ratic driving, A search following the arrest brought to light ten gallons of wine in the car, and Wednesday Keyes was arraigned before Justice Allen on a charge of having intoxi cating liquor in his possession. Justice Allen gave the Wheeler county official a severe leeture, and assessed a fine of ?2Mi, and sentenced Keyes to twenty days in jail, sus pending the latter penaltly for one week in order to allow the defendant to return home for Thanksgiving. Judge Allen stated that the commit ment would be signed some time dur ing the coming week. Judge Keyes was not accused or suspected of bootlegging, but had the wine for his own use. Wednes day morning Loui Comini appeared before the Justice and plead guilty to giving the wine to Keyes and was fined 'Sb0. The Dalles Optimist, CONDON BANK CLOSES DOORS. Notice was posted on the doors of the Condon National Bank this morn ing that the bank had been closed by resolution of board of directors. The notice Is signed by N. C. Wilde, na tional bank examiner, who was called to take charge of the bank. Tending an examination, the ex aminer declined to make any state ment. But it is understood that the bank is not insolvent and that the closing mny be only temporary though of course the latter depend upon the result of the decision of the examiner. According to bank officials all depositors will ret their money. How long the bank will be closed cannot be stated now. It is said that extraordinary withdrawals of funds caused the board to order the closing t-endon Globe-Times. THE CONSPIRACY. THERE was formed the greatest cor, spi racy again t the resurrec tion of Jesus Christ the world has ever known. They bribed the people who were at ti tomb and manufac tured a ridiculous He in order that they might create doubt concerning the resurrection of Jesus. The res urrection of Jeus Christ waa ft fact, and therefore the conspirators had to explain the fact away, or In some manner destroy belief In its super naturalness. Therefore, they held ft conference and outlined a program of deception which has been carried down through the ages, and the ra tionalistic, unregenerated forcea of today are still propagating the He, and are members of that conspiracy. The original program involved bribery, the use of power and money. They rehearsed their story, memo rised it and instructed the people how to repeat it. That same policy is being followed today. The original program of bribery. conspiracy, lying and attack upon the tomb of Jesus Christ ia being carried on today, not only against the tomb, but against the Church and her fundamental doctrines. The purpose, of course, is to deceive the very elect. The agencies of the Church are being used, educational institutions are being invaded, the power of money is being employed. and the great evangelical, fundamen tal doctrines are being attacked by members of the most damnable con spiracy the world ever saw. -The bat tle is being waged around the empty tomb. There is no historical fact more perfectly established than the resur rection of Jesus Christ, and yet in famous, perjuring, rationalistic, un- regenerate preachers and teachers are denying the supernatural, bodily resurrection of Jesus Christ. They are members of this infamous con s pi racy. Real Christians should awake to the fact, be aroused to the crime and expose the conspirators and their conspiracy.
