generous hsr.d. not the grasping hand
that is loved.
There are pacing failures in this
old wor.d tl.t m the light of time
lift up perm fane nt triumphs. That
which cvir to b a fault today may
blossom into an abiding: virtue to
morrow. Folks are fact? This is the hardest
truth for most folks to gi&sp. There
is none of us without our limitations
somewhere.
Get out the best that there i in
everybody and accept the limitations
that we cannot change or control.
That is the right gfvine in life.
An old proverb telU us, "He is life
less who is faultless."
We easily forget those faults which
are known on:y to ourselves and
while we are indifferent to our good
qualities, we keep on deceiving our
ie.ves in regard to our fau.ts, until
we at at come to look upon them as
virtues. That is weakness and weak
ness is a i&u.t to be feared.
The greatest virtue is not the free
dom from fault? but the etrergth, the
will, the courage, the character to
overcome them.
Among the commonest classifica
tion of common fautt are cruelty,
const-ant r.g.rtirg. faultfinding and
selfishness. Thee make disagreeable
men and dis?greeab:e men make a
disagreeable world.
Life is what yea nir.Ke it and you
make it as you tnink it.
The first symptom of fault infec
tion is to be unaware of its presence.
Cheerfulness, ambition, sincerity,
and brotner'y fee.irg are the best
medicine? and surest cures.
One fault nevtr justifies another.
Some fault? indulged in are merely
the keys that open the gates to per
mit greater faults to enter. A viiful
fault has no excuse and deserves r.o
pardon. Bsd men excuse their faults
while good men attempt to get rid
of them.
The foolifh man's fault is the wise
man's lesson. The weak man who
tries to justify his faults by pointing
to the lonesom e defect in a neighbor
is like the sieve that reminded the
needle that it had a hole in its head.
Nothing i? worth being named a

RECIPROCITY.
THEKE ha? reached our desk a little
booklet entitled, "A is Man to Man,"
neatly bound, containing no adver

story of his heartbreaking efforts to
win succe-s in an industriM enter
prise and of tr.e futility of his ef
forts until he discovered that what
ailed his own buMnes. wa the same
thing that ai;H his town a lack of
friendliness between bu-ine:- rrer
and t h -i r failure to ?U) port each
other.
The story u-ils of a transformation
wrought through the organization of
a "reciprocity club" where the doc
trine of paironizir.if home industry
was preached, where ti e problems of
business were dicused. where con
centrated effort was developed, where
a spirit of helpfulness was promoted
and. n.OAt of mi, where social con
tact was e.-tab:ihed and a mutual
friendliness between neiglnbors creat
ed. The town might be any of a hun
dred towns in ue northwest or else
where, for the situation described it
not novel. Neither is the cure pre

Human nature is incapable of mor
al improvement by a.iy human pro
ces known to mankind. The only
thing within the power of iJod that
can change human nature is regen
eration. Reformation cannot effect
its charscter. Regeneration must pre-
cede reformation. Those who have i
been regenerated are of course grow-;
irg bt-tter; they are improving; they
are progressing; they are growing
more Godlike.
The good are getting better, but
the bad are getting worse. The un
generated, the unwashed, the unsaved
are more skilled, subtle, and power
ful in the practices of the world.
The corrupt are becoming more
scientific in their corruption, and
more determined to practice corrup
tion. The fact of salvation. There would
be no salvation if we were not lost.
You can't save something that hasn't
been lost.
The stubborn fact of depraved, lost
human nature. This great entity
known as sinful man cannot be im
proved by external processes; he can
..ot be redeemed by education or evo
lution. He can be saved only by the
regenerating act of the Holy Ghost.
It is the duty of the church and
of every minister of the gospel to
preach the awfulness of sin, the ab
solute certainty and power of salva
tion, the judgment that awaits the
unrepentant, and to denounce with
ail the power possible the hellish de
lusion that the world is growing
better.
