Until the small and inexperienced
investor is protected by some such

or any other wildcat stock advocated
by an intense mail campaign, believ
ing that the company is ati right be
cause it is u.-ing the U. S. mails in
its seeing.

preserver of property.
In addition to newspaper advertis
ing, a billboard campaign has been
decided or,. This campaign will af
ford two month's showing on bill
boards in 467 cities and towns with a
population of 4.400.000 people.
Special window displays have been
airanged in order that purchasers of
ptint may know easily where paint
for their homes can be purchased.

Through a service department, the
Fuller company will continue its ed
ucational work on problems regard
ing paint and its application.
As a further aid to dea'ers, per

Eat wisely and live longer. Some

FARM POINTERS
Early gardens are subject to se
vere injury by slimy, slow moving,
repulsive slugs. The plants may be
protected with a repeient spray of
bordeaux mixture. For the home
garden, probably the commercial
bordeaux mixture diluted as recom
mended on the container will give
good results. In addition prepare a
poison bait of caxium-arsenate us
ed at the rate of one ounce to one
pound of chopped lettuce leaves.
Mix these thoroughly and place
small heaps near the plants and
frames to be protected. Kale, clover.
or other succulent leaves may be
sub.titutd for the lettuce.
Disease organisms are apt to be
found on ground where old poultry
stock has been recently run. It is
desirable to rear cnicks on ground I
wmcft has not held stock for some t
time.

Fruit worms and bud moths are

HERE are times, such as the
last year or so in Heppner,
when money is scarce, and
everyone finds it hard to do
busines son a cash basis.-
When these times come there is always an
inclination to cut down expenses on every
hand. In following out this policy many
merchants make the mistake of consid
ering advertising a liability instead of an
asset, which it really is.
At such times especially do people want
to know where bargains may be obtained.
They wish to be kept informed on the
trend of market conditions generally. The
newspaper can do, and does do, its part
through the news columns. But this is
not sufficient to convince the public mind.
It is necessary that the merchant do his
part by consistent and thoughtful adver
tising, to affirm the newspaper's position,
and leave the public without doubt.
If a spirit of fairmindedness is shown
by buyer and seller and medium of infor
mation, much may be done to relieve the
tenseness of present conditions. The buy
er should keep well within his ability to
pay, in running credit accounts, and thus
help the merchant in meeting his bills.
