scored another success early this
month, embodied in the announce
ment of the organization of a chain
of four joint-stock land banks for
northwestern states. The banks will
be located in Portland, San Fran
cisco, Los Angeles and Salt Lake.
The Portland bank is in addition to
the joint-stock land bank recently
organized in this city, making two
establishments to serve Washington
and Idaho.
Nine large banking concerns are
affiliated in the movement for the
four new banks: The First National,
Portland; First National, Los An
geles; Los Angeles Trust & Savings
bank and Security Trust & Savings
bank, San Francisco; National up-
per bank, Walker Bromers Dan,
United States National bank, and
Deseret National bank of Salt Lake
City.
Each of these establishments, like
the original Portland joint stock land
bank, will be capitalized at tirst at
